Today's Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Kyle Lowry is considering going pro.
My two reactions:
1. huge mistake as Florids neutralized him by playing off of him and daring him to shoot;
2. Please go immediately as your departure weakens Nova significantly.

I think he is 'pulling a Bowman.' He will be back. Sounds like he has been watching the replay of the BC game too much, where Packer acted like he was the second coming of Michael Jordan.

He wouldn't be the first guy to go before he was ready, also don't know what his family/financial considerations are. It all may depend on who else comes out to affect his position in the draft. That said - if he goes, 'Nova is weaker, so bye-bye!

As a Boston Bruins fan, I would love to have an enforcer/thug like Kyle Lowry on our team.
Oh. Wait.....

A power guard works in college, but he needs to learn how to shoot the rock. He attempted 8 threes all year from the college line.

Isn't it ironic that a Nova guard has difficulty with dialing long-distance?
The Over/Under on Jay wright and probation is 5 years...

Now correct me if I am wrong, but the way I understand it there is nothing wrong with weighing your options and declaring for the draft as long as you dont hire an agent. It lets you know where you are in relation to making the league while still letting you play college. So I guess I don't really view these things as stupid untill they hire the agent or go past the deadline.

A good point, of course, and one to keep in mind (read: "don't go off the frakkin' deep end" ) when we hear that two other players, both nearer and dearer to us, are also "weighing options."

Well said Boz. however, being here in Philly, i'm fairly well-convinced that Lowry will not only weigh his options, but make the jump when the time comes.
I think he's basketball-savvy enough to know that when teams have to focus on him as the primary backcourt threat, his effectiveness will suffer greatly. Last season, he was generally not guarded by the opponent's best defender in the backcourt. With Foye and Ray gone and Nardi exposed a barely one-dimensional fraud, all eyes on Kyle and that's not a sight he wants the year before he comes out.
His stock (eg potential) will never be higher.

I think Lowry should weigh his options. A shot you can develop. His toughness, quickness and ability to rebound for a guy that short you can't develop. Look at TJ Ford and Chris Paul and them. They are in the league doing okay. I think Lowry definitely needs to work on his shot and stay in school. But I think he has more upside in the NBA than Marcus Williams would have.

Lowry should go as he can learn all those things while being paid better than the usual unlimited long-distance provided by Nova.

Gmac is a great college player, and nothing more. He probably go to Europe if he is lucky.

GMac ain't playing here in the U.S. He'll be lucky if some team in Outer Mongolia or Somalia wants him.

SoCal 85-- you're pretty much right, but one other thing to consider is that you only get to pull that move (declare, not hire an agent, come back) one time. So if you do it as a sophomore, you can't do it again as a junior. You'd have to make a decision after your junior year to either stay or go, because if you declare, even if you don't hire an agent, you can't come back. If you do it after your junior year (ala Brandon last year) there's really no downside, but if you do it as a sophomore, there's a little bit of a risk there.
Boz--one player nearer and dearer to us, methinks.
As for Lowry, I don't think he's really ready. He's really not a tall guy, and he's not just an average shooter, he's actually a poor shooter. At his height and position that isn't really gonna fly. He has essentially one offensive move--power dribble, power dribble, jumpstop, layup--and he's already had a pretty great college career with that. But how well is that going to work at the next level? If he can't shoot for his life, everybody in the league is going to hang back off him, and he's not going to be able to get to the basket the way he does. Not to mention that the athletes in the league are much better, and it's not going to be as easy to drive to the hole at the next level. Also, he's done a pretty good job avoiding getting swatted in college, but the Florida bigs did a pretty good job of discouraging him, and he was held to 3 points only. At the next level the big guys/shotblockers only get bigger, badder and more savvy. Finally, I don't think his defense will be as much of an asset at the next level either. He gets all up on people and starts in with that handchecking/slapping stuff, which is cool when you're guarding, say, Jon Wallace, or somebody who else who's not quick enough to get a step on you and take you off the dribble. He'll also get posted up a lot by NBA guards who are 4 or 5 inches bigger.

All excellent points, but i'm not sure his stock is ever higher than right now. Everything he does poorly was well-masked by the attention paid to Foye and Ray. Alone in the backcourt with Nardi, his weaknesses get magnified and Nova gets nowhere next year.
If he goes, and I selfishly hope he does, he gets paid while he works on a jumper every day with the pros. Essentailly he gets to commit full time to his career without that pesky schoolwork.
