Well, a few Hoyas are still playing ball. Here is the schedule, in chronological sequence beginning next week:
McDonald's High School All-American Game
Vernon Macklin will be in this game and will play on the East team. His teammates include Earl Clark (Louisville), Mike Conley (Ohio State), Javaris Crittenton (Georgia Tech), Wayne Ellington (UNC), Gerald Henderson (Duke), Tywon Lawson (UNC), Greg Oden (Ohio State), Scottie Reynolds (Oklahoma), Lance Thomas (undeclared), Brandan Wright (UNC), and Thaddeus Young (Georgia Tech). The game will be televised live from San Diego at 10 p.m. Eastern on ESPN on 3/29. The dunk and three point contests follow at midnight. For more information, visit www.mcdonaldsallamerican.com. It would be cool if folks in the area showed up in person.
Charm City Challenge
Summers will participate in the Charm City Challenge on the Baltimore team. His teammates include Jamal Barney (Providence), Louis Birdsong (Kryptonite Kids), Rodney Spruill (Towson), and Derek Young (Navy), among others. They will face a national team that will include UMD signees, among others. The game will be held on 4/2 at 5 p.m. in the Towson Center. A local game will precede this contest. General admission tickets go for $15. For more information about tickets and other issues, visit www.charmcitychallenge.com.
Nike Hoops Summit
Macklin will participate in the 2006 Nike Hoops Summit on the national team against a World Team, with players from Serbia, Italy, and other places. Macklin's teammates include a who's who from the McDonald's Game. The game will be held on 4/8 at 3:00 Central in the FedEx Forum in Memphis. The game will be televised on Fox Sports. Tickets are affordable and start at $10. For more info, visit www.usabasketball.com/men/2006/06_mhs_fact-sheet.html.
Capital Classic
Jeremiah Rivers will be in this game on the US All-Star Team. His teammates include Jawan Carter (St. Joseph's), Jerome Dyson (UCONNvict), Darrin Govens (St. Joseph's), William Graves (UNC), Damian Hollis (WG), Doneal Mack (Florida), Jonathan Mitchell (Florida), DeShawn Sims (Michigan), Josue Soto (FSU), Jamil Tucker (Virginia), Anthony Wright (Michigan), and Dan Werner (NCSU). The game will be held on 4/13 at 8 p.m. in WG's Smith Center and will be preceded by a local all-star game. Their cheapest ticket is $25. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster and should be available at the door. Please turn out en masse. Students will be in the middle of Easter break, otherwise there would be more of a concerted effort from HB. For more info, check out www.thecapitalclassic.com.
Jordan Classic
Macklin and Dajuan Summers will be in this game on the Red Team. Their teammates include Demond Carter (Baylor), Kevin Durant (Texas), Paul Harris (stinks), Mike Jones (stinks), Lawson (UNC), Obi Muonelo (Oklahoma State), Brandon Wright (UNC), and Brian Zoubek (Duke). The game will be held on 4/22 and will be televised live on ESPN2 and ESPNU at 5:30 p.m. The game will be played in MSG, so hopefully we'll have a good turnout from folks on the board who normally attend the BET. For more info, check out www.jordanclassic.com.
Discussion of the games should follow in this thread. I will try and post reports on the McDonald's practices based on what is gleaned elsewhere.
