Today might be a big day on the BE coaching circuit. An announcement on Dixon's status is expected in another hour.

What a horrific move. Orr is a very good coach, and although the pirates played poorly against a garbage team in the NCAA first round, I never imagined that he would get the boot.
The expectations that people put on coaches nowadays are insane.

I agree that it is a horrific move. I have the pleasure to work with a colleague who is an ardent Seton Hall alum and fan. He is aghast at the move.

Awful move. Looks like they don't like to succeed up there in the Swamps of NJ.

It is a bad move. Coaches must be expected to win, and Orr did the best he could with the group he had this season. SHU needed to make a decision, as Orr has been unable to recruit because of the administration casting a cloud over the program. Firing Orr is better than maintaining the course of indecision, but still worse than actually keeping him.
Names floating for the SHU job include Hofstra's coach, Calipari (no chance), and Bobby Gonzalez.

Yeah he did well this year, but he has signed no recruits for next season.

Is there a possibility of Orr doing the NJ shuffle and going to Rutgers? or does Rutgers already have a guy lined up? What's his next move?

As reports go, Seton Hall told Orr he'd have to fire his assistants and hire a new staff with better ties to local recruiting if he wanted to stay. Orr declined, so SHU cut him.
That kind of administrative attitude will not be well received by many candidates.

Rutgers is expected to announce Fred Hil as its new coach. He is largely responsible for recruiting Nova's guards, but he has no head coaching experience.

Gonzalez would be a nice geographic fit. Plus as a former BE assistant, he is familiar with what it takes to win in this conference.

What about the hints of integrity issues with Gonzalez?

a friend of mine has a fairly senior position at SHU. He has told me in the recent past how well-liked and respected Orr is by the faculty and administration. They seem him as a very classy guy, committed to developing men not just players. Based on those prior comments, I am guessing this will be viewed as a controversial move at SHU.
It is true Orr has not had the best recruiting success. But this past year, he had virtually no chance as the rumors of his ouster were all over the place, and no one at SHU came to his defense. How can you possibly get a recruit to commit when everyone (including opposing recruiters) is talking about how you won't be there.
Sorry to see how Orr was treated, even if he was an Orangeman.
Good luck to him in whatever he pursues next.

I like Orr and thought he was a class act.
But, SHU has a new AD and he has the right to go with "his guy". Life goes on. It was a tough situation and bad timing.
The thing that upsets me is they waited this long to do it. This is prime hiring season and he will probably be left without a chair at the end of the dance. The AD knew he was going to do this and could have met with him the Monday after they lost and moved on. Why wait till now?

As the son of an ardent SHU alum, he agreed with me that Orr was given a raw deal. He could never recruit this year because of the administration's total lack of commitment and yet they held it over his head. I guess being picked to finish 15th in the BE and turning out a 9-7 NCAA season counts for nothing in their eyes. Also, the fact that every one of his players supported Orr to a man meant nothing. In fact, they lost a highly regarded PG from NYC to Nova because of Orr's shaky situation with the AD.
In truth, here in NJ/NY, and at most big time state programs, you need to be part showman, part coach and part amoral politican to succeed and Orr was only a coach. He will be highly successful in the mid-Majors where media savvy and politics play a far less important role to the actual success of the team on the court. He probably also will not be asked to fire half his staff after making a run into the NCAAs.
This just makes us relfect and be thankful for what we have Georgetown. How great is it to not have to worry about this "business" crap and concentrate on the program's on-court performance and the growth of the players.

Really, is SHU going to do better than Louis Orr? The Pirates peaked almost two decades ago, SHU's administration has shown little support for the program, and the team doesn't even play on campus.
Of course, that's what people said about Georgetown two years ago...
Agree that Louis is a classy guy, and I like him more after each interview he does. I'm not sure I would have fired Louis Orr, but then again I can see how someone would -- the results on the court have been just above average.

Mid majors? If Huggins can yet another major job, Orr should get one, too.
