While there are schools in the Big East that I hate (Syracuse & ND). I would always root fro a Big East School over an ACC school. It doesn't get any worse than Maryland, Duke & BC. I love SEC football so I don't mind theri BBalll teams. The Big 10 is overrated and after that who cares

Elvado.
This question from the current chat with Matt Rennie on washingtonpost.com is for you. Would you be kind enough to provide an answer for this fan?
"Arlington, Va.: So this isn't really a questions about the tournament itself but I'm trying to figure out where I can watch the Villanova/Boston College game in its entirety. I understand that G-town is the local team but I've been pretty steamed that it takes precedence over the VU games---personal opinion-if a number one seed is playing, THAT game should be televised, regardless of local area."

Ummmm....isn't Nova-BC before GU-UF?
What is this guy complaining about? Am I missing something? Does he mean GMU?

Someone gave a good answer.
"Chicago, Ill: Our genius Villanova fan is showing why he went there. If any game involving a #1 seed was televised over every other regardless of who is local, then why even bother having those other games, since they are played primarily for television. Another point is that given the fact that Georgetown and Villanova are both playing in the Metrodome, I don't understand how the Georgetown game would be on at the same time as the Villanova game, unless we like the Hoyas so much here that we'll watch it again."

I always root for BE teams when they are playing non-BE opponents. It is crucial to our continued success.

It also amazes me sometimes that people still hate Nova from 21 years ago. It's a different era! It's like when some people still hate Georgetown because they didn't like Coach Thompson in the 80's.... welcome to the 21st century! Yikes! Tradition and history do come into play (none of the current staff or players were at GU when I was there, but I still root for them and love to follow them.) Think about the worst Hoya loss you witnessed and multiply it by, oh, maybe 4 billion times, and then see if you can just live and let live... I will forget about the '85 'Nova loss when they stop playing highlights of it every time we play 'Nova and every time they show clips of great tournament games. And, when everyone from 'Nova stops reminding me about it, even though it happened 21 years ago. A bit more seriously, I am not THAT scarred and it is all in good fun (we are only talking about rooting for basketball teams, after all), but your response is pretty surprising to me since it is basically minimizing the history and tradition associated with rooting for your team. I know rivalries change (heck, we couldn't have cared less about UMCP or GW back in the 80s), but, personally, I think recognizing the history and traditional rivalries makes the entire experience more fun. I would like to expand on this somewhat. The loss to Villanova in the championship game was my most painful experience as a fan that did not involve a death. It was different from disliking GU because you don't like Pops. The game denied us our spot in college basketball lore, since so few teams have won back to back. And it took a miracle to beat us. I guess it would have been worse if we had played miserably and lost by 2 points (see Houston v. NC State), but this was plenty bad enough. As a result, I have found it very difficult to root for Villanova. This was compounded by the crazy ways they kept beating us prior to III's arrival. Now despite that, I have to say, I really love this particular Villanova team. They play with tremendous grit despite being undersized, and in that respect they remind me of another of my favorite teams, the first UCLA team to win the national championship (which had no starter taller than 6'5"). So despite my antipathy toward Villanova basketball, I will be cheering for Villanova unless they are playing GU or UCLA.
