As soon as SUCKS won there fans quickly turned to rooting for ND. Great job by our fans - seemed like we had a lot of people at the game and the small band/stundent section did a great job being loud.
Any cuse fan who tells you they aren't into the Gtown rivalry anymore is lying. I was sitting near 50 Cuse fans and every single one was pulling hard for ND.
Also anyone see James White and Devendork going at it at the end of the game. Almost came to blows. Devo is by new most hated player.

It seems like the whole game there were cheers for the irish but only at one point did I hear a hoya saxa. I'm hoping its just because everyone except for hoya fans were rooting for the irish.

I think that was definitely the case. All the Cuse fans stayed and rooted for ND. So we were fighting an uphill battle. But the Gtown fans near me were loud and our student section was great
ND/Cuse/Cinci didn't seem to have the mini student section we had.

Student section/band did a great job. They were there early and they stayed loud. ND's section was basically empty other than the band, which is just pathetic.
Overall, I thought the whole arena was pretty dead. Probably a few more Irish fans, but it wasn't like they were overally loud either.

Seeing the GU Pep Band collectively doing the "hands up" thing on James White's foul-line jumper at the end of the Cincy-Cuse game--CLASSIC!! ;D The ONLY bad part about it is that the band/student section is shoved all the way back in that corner section on the floor, so between the camera angle and the lighting at MSG you almost never actually see the people during a game on TV.

Ya watching it on tv it came across as if the Irish dominated the arena, so i guess the 'cuse fans help explain that. They can deny that rivalry all they want but this shows they do care (i saw a few cuse fans at the USF game also rooting on the bulls). Hopefully against marquette the hoya fans come across better on television (not that i doubt that they were making themselves heard at MSG).

If there wasn't a rivalry there...than how come every Cuse/GU game I go to I see all these "Yo mama's a Hoya" shirts from the Cuse...
If they really didn't care, they'd just wear an Orange SU c k s shirt...
BTW...if my mom WAS a Hoya...It'd be a lot better than her being an Orange

One of the highlights of my day was yelling "Hey Gerry, I hear they have nice buses in the NBDL" from the 5th row during a break in the action early in that game. Too bad he got us back at the end of that game. Dare I say, do we want Syracuse to win tomorrow?

I don't like playing the whole "I hope x team wins because we have a better chance of beating them" game because I feel like it will jinx us. But this is coming from the guy with some of the most rediculous sports superstitions. I'd rather let whatever happens happen and come up with an irrational superstition at the time to cope with it.

I didn't write about that in my recap of the USF game, but what the HELL was that?? It wasn't like a family either, there were multiple distinct pockets of people in Orange sweaters (much like I saw at least 3 people today at GW of all places wearing Cuse stuff). Oh, there's a rivalry. One of my favorite parts of the BET (and this is from someone who's never been to MSG, only watched on TV) is seeing which schools fans team up to cheer against a mutual enemy. I thought the Cincy/GTown section did great today. ;D

A few definite highlights were the Cinci freaky Bearcat playing it up with our section and going after the Orange as we cheered him to kick the Orange's ass, doing the NIT and various Gtown chants that were much louder than anything Cinci could manage, a Syracuse fan coming down from the nosebleeds to yell at us at the end of the game.
Best by far though was the 4 or 5 middle-aged gentlemen right next to us who had imbibed a not insiginifcant quantity of alcohol. They carried on back and forth with 007, StPete, and others. Now, if my team were playing at that very second and I was sitting within spitball range of the court in seats that I had likely paid a great deal of money for, I don't think I would have spent my time jawing with college kids from a school I wasn't even playing at the moment. But that's just me. 007: "We're not Cincinnati!" Drunk gentleman: "I know! You aren't...but you are!" 007: "He's too drunk to know who we are." Amusing indeed.

People can call me alot of things. But you can't accuse me of ever being a Syracuse fan.
As for the fan atmosphere at the BET, it is so much more biting and merciless than any other postseason conference tourney. Everything from the lighting in the arena, the brutal tournament format, the fan vindictiveness, and the imbibing make for the BEST postseason conference tourney in college hoops.

Ya the Devendorf-White thing was crizzazy at the end. Devendorf seems like a real punk, he was taunting the Cinci bench after one of his threes. By the way... Boeheim has now won 20 games in 28 of his 30 years on the bench at Syracuse? I hate that whiner but damn thats a great record. all those 20 win seasons are real nice, but they have played 31 games this year, half of those in the preseason at home against absolutely horrible competition. so 20 this season is very misleading. now i don't know how many (if any) of the other 20 win seasons are a little misleading like this one, but i'd venture to guess that there are at least a few. either way though, he is a good coach with great consistency and longevity.

Too bad he got us back at the end of that game. Dare I say, do we want Syracuse to win tomorrow? Nothing on this earth could ever make me root for the Orangeboys. I would rather take my chances with UConn - especially since a double-digit Huskie win may still relegate the Orange to the NIT, so they have a chance to get back to NYC.

Speaking to some Louisville and WVU fans at Cafe 31 after our game. Seems our HOYAS get a lot of love out there. We aren't UCONN or NOVA.. so we don't intimidate them. They aren't our hated rivals like 'Cuse.
But most of all, they love us 'cause we beat DUKE! the UL guys especially, first year in the conference and one of their own goes out and hands it to Duke! THey loved it! They also know about JT3's wife and were immensely impressed with how JT3 is handling the whole thing.
It seems there is a lot of respect for JT3 and the Hoyas from the fans of other programs.
