Just checked out the latest amalgamation of bracket projections at the bracket project: bracketproject.atspace.com/comparison.htmbottom line: the USF loss didn't hurt nearly as much as we think. on friday our projected seed came out to a 5. Now it's a 6. If we win a game or two in NYC, the odds are good that we'll get a 4, 5 or a 6, and be in a position to play a very beatable team in round two. Lose to ND and we're probably an 8 - but we're not going to lose to ND (or Marquette for that matter). LET'S GO HOYAS

A 6 would not be the worst thing in the world a tougher first round game against an 11, but then potentially a 3 and a 2; given the general mediocrity in college bball this season below the top 3-4 teams, avoiding a #1 seed for as long as possible could help. That said, I think we get at least 2 , maybe even a third this week, getting us up to a 5 or even a four.

id rather be a 6 as opposed to a 5...i think the selection guys try hard to make the 5/12 as even as possible to keep the cinderella theme going

Yeh, the reason the #12 seed is dangerous is because it is usually one of the last teams into the tournament. Sometimes, that means it is a team that is falling out of contention (Syracuse), but it could be a team that has played well enough at the end of the year to sneak in (UAB, FSU). I wouldnt want to play a team from the latter category.

I know we treat them like an ugly stepchild because, well let's face it, they are, but -- depending on how the next week shakes out in terms of slots -- I think it wouold be fun if the selection committee did a little creative seeding for a potential GU-GW matchup.
Not that I think it's an automatic W or anything. As someone smarter than me pointed out the other day, GW doesn't suck. They're a good team, just an overrated one.
I just think it would be fun. Unlike MD in 2001, this would be a possible matchup on Sat-Sun of the first weekend (3-6 or 4-5, I'd guess), so you wouldn't have that whole week going into the game. But still I think there'd be plenty of time going into the tournament for local media to build up some good hype for this and have lots of fun coverage & conversation.
I just think it would be pretty cool.
(but yeah, we'd win it)

Bracketology has us at a 6 today with Lunardi saying he'll give us a "mulligan" on the South Florida game, but not on ND if we want a good seed.
Now if only the HoyaTalkers would give our team a mulligan...

Here is what I want - 6 GU vs. 11 George Mason - winner takes on GW. That would be an amazing post season BB&T with the local team that are relevant.

yeah - especially now that tony skinn is out for punchin a guy in the nuts. stewart mandel has us a 6 against UAB - i don't like that matchup because that teams seems to be dangerous. i want a cushy 11 seed like mizzou state or some ohter overrated MVC team.

looks like we make the big dance no matter what. an 8 seed would still be bad because making the sweet 16 would be very very hard. that makes the ND game a must-win and if we beat them i think marquette would be an easier win.

They ARE going to the dance no matter what. They can lose to ND in the first round and they're still going. One loss (even a 2-4 stretch run) does not a season make.

I would guess it does really well since its an average of lots of experts the week or so before the selection committee makes its decisions.

gonzaga currently trying to give away this game to LMU...i mean really 'zaga...there is enough uncertainty in mid-majors this year - you are the friggin' 4th ranked team in the country and you cant beat LMU on your home court? this team has got nothing...NOTHING

I have a hard time falling asleep so I actually watch a lot of Gonzaga games. Honestly, I'm not that impressed with a team that seems to sneak by game after game. I really wonder how they will do if they get bracketed against a Big East, ACC or Big Ten team. I sure in heck do not believe they are a #2 seed. Maybe, a GW West version.
Now watch, we'll play them in the tournament and get smoked.
