To know that we need not obsess over RPI, SOS and other arcane numbers. To need not listen wiShut uplly to the term "bubble team" and wish that we were one of the teams included in the list. To know that the Selection show will have meaning beyond just the first look at what will become our hopeless, even pitiful brackets - and to know that once the brackets are set, we will spend hour upon hour listening to analysis on ESPN, CSTV, Foxsports, and every sports radio talk show we can pull in, to hear them talk of the Hoyas and our potential prey. JTII, the seniors, and every Hoya - we thank you, from the very bottom of our Blue and Gray hearts. HOYA SAXA!

Oh, we could still obsess about RPI... but merely in a seeding capacity. And that IS nice.

Yes, by all means, do not let the Hoyas success prevent anyone from pointing out -- at any time -- that Joe Lunardi is a putz. And if someone can explain to me how Syracuse has a SOS of 9, I would appreciate that too.

Because Syr cheats! Just kidding.
They actually have a pretty good schedule this year. they have a brutal Big East schedule playing Nova, UCONN and Cincy twice.
Plus, they played a good amount of decent, but not great OOC games...all at home by the way.
They played Bucknell, Kent St. (boosted by the MVC this year), Siena, UTEP, Davidson, Texas Tech, Florida, Manhattan. All solid teams in the Top 125 in RPI.
Only a couple of dogs. Again, the way to boost the RPI is to play a lot of teams in the 100-200 range instead of the 275+ range. Those kill you.
Compared to past Syracuse schedules this was much tougher. Hard to compare as #9, but pretty solid actually.

Bah! Facts! I have no need of those.
For instance, watching the tape of the game, it was very nice for me to be able to shout out repeatedly, "Shut up, Sims, you Syracuse grad!" even though Dave Sims didn't get a sniff of actually being a Syracuse student.
My world is funner. ;D
(seriously though; thanks for the info; I would have thought playing nearly every pre-conference game at home would not allow such a high SOS, but apparently I am wrong).

Good point on Kent St. Although they have a decent RPI.
This is part of the reason why the RPI is simply a tool...
