I'm sure you've seen those ads on ESPN for their college hoops coverage in which the student sections in schools like WVU, Maryland, Kansas, and UCLA are shown doing their 'pregame rituals.'
We could use one of these. Any ideas?
I kind of liked how the Nova squad enters the court through the middle of the student section.

With all due respect, it has to be something that evolves/develops over time, its not something that one day you decide you want to have and all the sudden it appears. For example, not walking on the seal by the healy entrance...long time in the making...If we had an on campus arena and a seal down there, then you could have something

I actually have thought of both of the things you guys have mentioned....
and so I wondered...
were there any traditions that you guys did before games during the 80's or 90s at the Cap Centre that may have fallen by the wayside or been marginalized in some way in recent years? If there was anything like that, it'd be solidly rooted in tradition and something we could pick back up in a retro sort of way.

If Kurt or anyone associated with Hoya Blue did ANYTHING resembling what that dopey pirate looking guy from UCLA does in those commercials, I would quit coming to Georgetown games. Seriously. That's the lamest thing I have ever seen in my life. At least Maryland and esp. Kansas have some actual tradition attached to theirs...and at least West Virginia incorporates a firearm into theirs. UCLA apparently takes their cues from 11 year old girls making up cheers for a color war at their summer camp...hell, I guess half of all summer camp color wars end up being blue vs. gold anyhow, so maybe it makes sense on some level.

I actually enjoyed the UCLA pregame ritual. Thought it was kind of funny.

Does the JT3 chant count? Or are we talking even more pregame than intros?

Not a pregame ritual, but one of the best Georgetown student section devices was Rejection Row during the Mourning/Mutombo days, where students posted pieces of paper with giant palms on them for every blocked shot like K signs at a baseball game. This team is not particularly prolific in that regard, but perhaps next year when you add PE2, Macklin, and Summers to Hibbert and Green there will be potential to revive it. Also, at least this way someone will keep a more accurate tally of Roy's blocks than our stat crew seems to.

I think the JT3 chant for us counts as ritual at this point.

I loved rejection row.
I think our introduction deal is really lame, though. Way over the top. Especially when the arena is only a quarter full or whatever.

I still claim that the "Murder Murder" song should be a mandatory part of our pre-game ritual, warm-ups, timeouts, etc...
It should be the ONLY song we play at the Phone Booth. I don't care if that's excessive - its the best song that's ever been played by GTown.

JTIII chant is ours and ours alone; if not a ritual in and of itself, it's a great start to one.
UCLA's clap-and-yell thing (i have no idea what they call it - U clapclapclap C clapclapclap L clapclapclap A clapclapclap U-C-L-A fightfightfight!) is pretty cool, too, especially inside Pauley Pavillion when everyone's doing it.

I was thinking along the same lines after seeing this series of commercials, but I had a slightly different idea for ours. It would show the front rows of each side of the student section doing the end of the fight song: "But the yell of all the yells, the yell that wins the day is the HOYA, HOYA, SAXA for the dear old Blue and Gray" and then they would flash each side yelling Hoya and Saxa across the way to each other. I doubt ESPN would shoot such a commerical in the cavernous MCI Center, but I think it would be much better than the JTIII chant.

How about this for a pre-game ritual - it shows a keg and eggs before we have yet another Noon game on a weekend at an arena we don't own and are last in line for scheduling at?

Or you can show us out in San Francisco, pounding on the door of the Bus Stop (which opens at nine am) and then ordering breakfast from the Japanese restaurant next door.
Noon ain't so bad.
