scary when a Mike Tyson quote attributed to someone else regarding a topic different than originally intended still remains one of the clearer posts in a thread. Yeah, 'cause that made sense.

On PTI today, Boeheim said that if Syracuse didn't make it into the NCAAs, they would decline the NIT and fade into Bolivian until November.

So apparently, if I'd used Jim Boeheim as a mock troll for my Troll Dos & Don'ts thread, it wouldn't have been moved to irrelevance on the Pro & College Sports board.
Got to love that consistency from the Admin. Totally objective.
(Mind you, I think this thread is hilarious).

He essentially said Ewing wouldn't cut it as a BU student; that he wouldn't make it admittance wise, nor once enrolled. That's it. Here are the details: Ewing had not even enrolled at GU when articles appeared in the Boston Globe--its readers still stunned over Ewing's leaving of Boston for Washington--that Ewing was academically deficient and needed special care to attend classes.Jilted Boston University coach Rick Pitino went so far as to say that a student like Ewing couldn't ever have been accepted at BU--and a shadow was cast on Ewing the moment he arrived at Georgetown. www.hoyabasketball.com/features/hist16.htmClass act, that Pitino. Of course, he was also a serial buttocks fondler. Ooops, back to Tyson again. Sorry 'bout that. I love this thread!

Thanks gents... That is a sorry ass comment on his part... On another note, really sorry to see him lose his best big man for the rest of the year (Padgett)--- never hate to see a kid go through that.

Lived across the hall from him sophomore year. Nice kid. Last I checked he's out in LA trying to get into show biz writing. His brother Rick (Jr., I'm guessing) is a young coach at Northeastern.

Thanks everybody (especially you Buff). I left out the banana bit, since it turned out it wasn't Cuse, but I still think I wrote a pretty good opinion piece. Anyway, hopefully it gets published and yall can read it on Friday

Other favorite 'Cuse moments. Anyone remember when Dolph Schayes, NBA HOFer was thrown out of McDonough when we were playing the team when his son Danny was on it? I tend to remember he wandered onto the court to complain about a call and was given the heave ho.
Also, Boeheim knocking the chair over at the post Big East Championship game in 1984 whining that the best team didn't win. OT victory for Hoyas and controversial call re: Michael Graham, reversing a flagrant foul, I believe.

Here's the lede of a 1983 Post story:
February 9, 1983, Wednesday, Final Edition
SECTION: Sports; D1
LENGTH: 1508 words
HEADLINE: EWING UNDER SIEGE; Won't Continue to Ignore Abuse of Star, Says Thompson
BYLINE: By Gary Pomerantz, Washington Post Staff Writer
BODY: At Providence nearly three weeks ago, a fan under one basket raised a sign that read, "Ewing Can't Read," and Coach John Thompson pulled his Georgetown basketball team off the court until the sign was taken down.
Nine days ago at the Palestra in Philadelphia, Villanova fans held up several similar signs. One raised bedsheet read, "Ewing Is An Ape." A fan wore a T-shirt that read, "Ewing Kant Read Dis."
And when Patrick Ewing, Georgetown's 7-foot sophomore center, ran out for pregame introductions, someone in the Palestra crowd threw a banana peel on the court.

Looking at the Post archives, writers (including Kornheiser, Wilbon and Feinstein) referred in subsequent years as "bananas" being thrown at Ewing. But the only reported episode involved a single banana peel at Villanova.

Actually, found another banana incident, from March 1985. As reported in the N.Y. Times:
"Last night, Chris Mullin of St. John's and Perry McDonald of Georgetown exchanged words before they collided on an inbound pass that was ruled an intentional foul against McDonald. Late in the game, Ron Rowan of the Redmen and Reggie Williams of the Hoyas were ejected after a brief exchange of punches, none of which landed. In the closing seconds, someone sitting in the St. John's student section tossed a banana on the court which splattered near a couple of Georgetown players."
