Hey yall, I'm writing something for the Hoya about the Cuse rivalry, and I wanted to make sure I remembered this correctly:
Was it Cuse fans that threw the bananas at Patrick Ewing?
Also, what other classless things have their fans done (I know the list is long)
Thanks

i believe it was BC... when Ewing came to the line they would wave a pole that had bananas attached to it.

I'll give Syracuse (and particularly Jim Boeheim) some credit, though. In 1983, someone threw an orange in the direction of Ewing at the free throw line, whereupon Jim Boeheim quickly got on the microphone and said that he would ask the referees to issue multiple technical fouls against his team if that happened again. It didn't.
BC was the source of a lot of the anti-Ewing antics. The fans never got over the fact that the greatest high school basketball player of his era from Boston chose not to go there.
As to The HOYA, it may be best not to write about such incidents without some documented source. A search of some articles from that era may prove helpful.

DFW Hoya is right -- you are going to need some serious fact-checking. There is a lot of false info out there (one published editorial says it happened at Duke. GU did not play Duke during the Ewing era). Check this out first --(can't believe what Pitino allegedly said while at BU! -- I never knew this.). www.hoyabasketball.com/features/hist16.htmOn a separate note -- if you are going to talk about the rivalry, you have to include this game: Georgetown 69, Syracuse 68; Carrier Dome, Syracuse, NY • The Hoyas upset the Orangemen twice this season on last second wins. The most memorable came in the Carrier Dome. Syracuse had taken the lead with :08 left. "Charles Smith will take it all the way!" pronounced CBS' Billy Packer, and that is precisely what the 6-0 guard did, weaving right through the Orange defenses for a finger roll lay-up at the buzzer. www.hoyabasketball.com/features/classic.htmAn early veriosn of Hoya Blue, called Hoyamotion, organized a trip to the Dome -- The Roam to the Dome. Lots of Hoyas fans made the trip. Probably the best sporting event / experience I have ever had in my life.

Maybe twenty or thirty students went to the last game at Manley Field House. AFter our victory leading to JTII's statement that "Manley Field House is officially closed!" the 'Cuse fans broke out the windows of the student bus.

Boeheim once threatened to eat JT's babies... including our current head coach.

Boeheim once threatened to eat JT's babies... including our current head coach. DID he really?? or are you just making that up? Whatever the case, they ultimately ended up respecting one another and Boeheim pushed (for several years) for JT's admittance to the HOF. IMHO, rivalry stories are great... but personal attacks are unncessary.

DID he really?? or are you just making that up? He totally did. Here's what happened: It was a week or so before #1 G'Town played #12 SU-cks at the Cap Center in March of '85. Boeheim And His Ugly Bunch had just come off a big win, and were travelling to DC for the big game. The day before departing Syracuse for The District, Boeheim held a press conference where he said, and I quote: "John Thompson, I'm coming for you man. My style is impetuous. My zone defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat your children. Praise be to Allah!"[/i]

Did Boeheim actually bite JT2's ear off as well, or is that more of an urban legend?

Did Boeheim actually bite JT2's ear off as well, or is that more of an urban legend? C'mon, Sox. You know that's urban legend. Although he did say the following: - While on the march to the championship loss to Kentucky a few years back, Boeheim was asked which individuals he emulated in leading his team. He replied, "I really dig Hannibal. Hannibal had real guts. He rode elephants into Cartilage."[/i] - Before the 2000-2001 season, he was asked what he hoped to accomplish that year. He replied, "I just want to conquer people and their souls."[/i] - When asked after winning the national title how good his team actually was, Boeheim replied: "All praise is to Allah. We'll fight any man, any animal. If Jesus were here we'd fight him too."

I was also told Boeheim also had a pet pigeon named Julius.

scary when a Mike Tyson quote attributed to someone else regarding a topic different than originally intended still remains one of the clearer posts in a thread.
