Marquette is taking it to Pitt at home.
We did not play well, but maybe it wasn't as bad a loss as we feared.

in and of itself, a loss at marquette isn't bad at all - they are a pretty good team and should make the dance. the problem with our game against them to me wasn't that we lost necessarily, but how we played. i think we'll bounce back though, if not tomorrow then vs rutgers at home.

who said it was a bad loss? its the way we played that was so disappointing. Marquette is a definite tournament team, especially after winning this game tonight.
And they did us a favor. We can still get that first round bye even with a loss tomorrow if WVU takes care of Pitt.

From some of the highlights I saw, James blew past Pitt's guards too.
I definitely think we win 7 of 10 vs. Marquette....though I give them credit for keeping us out of synch by the way they played.

in effect, marquette and georgetown have identical tournament resumes. both have wins at home against Top teams (Duke, UConn), both have wins against Pitt at home...If anything, Marquette is a tad better, with the win against Gtown, and our next best conference win being Cincinnati probably...
they have a couple of bad out of conference losses, coupled with that Maui Invitational win...we have UTEP and a loss against Vandy at home. So all in all, relatively the same. congrats to the Golden whatevers on their win tonight. Lets get one back against Nova tomorrow! Go Hoyas

And they did us a favor. We can still get that first round bye even with a loss tomorrow if WVU takes care of Pitt. While it helps our chances v. Pitt, the Marquette win now adds them very much to the 4th seed/bye mix. Their finishing three are all very winnable and they have the tiebreaker edge over us obviously.

they've played like garbage on the road. i wouldn't be surprised if they lost twice more: at ND and at Louisville.
This is also not the time I'd want to be playing the Irish.

It would be great to get that bye... Are you kidding me? Lose tomorrow and we're suddenly 7th in this league. We'd be in the 5 loss crowd with Seton Hall and Marquette. Marquette has beaten us both and they would get 5th. It would then be a tie with Seton Hall and they'd beat us because they've defeated West Virginia, a higher-ranked team than our win against Pitt (again, that's right now). Analyzing the rest of the schedule: Gtown: Rutgers, Cuse, USF Seton Hall: St. John's, Depaul, Cincy, Pitt Marq: ND, Depaul, Providence - (that's 11-5 if i ever heard it) Personally, I don't know that the BET bye gets you very much. Say you finish 4th... you wait around and then play the 5th place team on Thursday afternoon of the BET. Yeah, #5 had to play the day before, but they've already picked up a postseason win, maybe worked out some of the MSG kinks and they're ready to go. I mean, we're not gonna win the BET unless something drastic changes soon, so I don't think playing on Wednesday is a death knell right now. I'd rather get the W under our belt and go from there. Having said that, I think tonight shows that the Marquette loss may not have been totally because we didn't show up, but rather that Marquette is actually pretty decent. So that's promising.

Again, how did anybody around here not know that Marquette was pretty decent? They were a top 35 RPI team! Its not a bad loss. The rage is over how we played, not in losing (at least it shouldn't be.)
As for the bye situation, Marquette one week ago lost @ Rutgers. They have struggled on the road this season--letting a couple of close games slip away and losing at the RAC when only 2500 fans showed up because of snow. It is far from a foregone conclusion that they can go into ND and Louisville and win.
I really think that if we go 11-5 we will get that first round bye. MU will lose again. SHU will lose again. And I expect Pitt to lose at WVU. That leaves us tied with Pitt at 11-5, giving us the bye.
But nothing is easily predicted in this league. So we'll see.

Thanks for the credit. It was a good, tough game. If Roy gets the ball as much as he should have, the outcome may have been different. Tough place to win though. Just curious what makes you think GTown "definitely" wins 7 of 10 vs Marquette?

we have played like garbage on the road twice. @rutgers was pathetic. @nebraska wasn't great either. @shu, @pitt, and @nova weren't so bad, though. We had more C-USA success at Freedom Hall than any other conference foe, and the 'ville is all but dead. The domers, however, are an ancient rival fighting for their lives and still fuming from a Novak game winner in Milwaukee. definitely a scary proposition. We'll be happy with 9-7. they've played like garbage on the road. i wouldn't be surprised if they lost twice more: at ND and at Louisville. This is also not the time I'd want to be playing the Irish.

I'd rather get the W under our belt and go from there. this is a very interesting issue. i'm not sure we want the bye either. (of course, not that it's ours if we want it) i think a win in the 7-10, 6-11, or 5-12 game, and then a second round loss acually looks better than losing the 4-5 game as the 4 seed. at that point in the season, with most of the resume building complete, adding a win or two is probably more important. MU's final four run in '02-'03 followed a loss in the second round of the conference tourney to UAB. we had the first seed and a bye after winning the conference title. but our bid was locked up at that point.
