Well, don't know if that will hurt book sales. Feinstein has a lot of loyal readers, and I doubt many of them read NYT book reviews or give a flip what NYT book reviewers think. He's become sort of like the Tom Clancy of sports writers.

Don't all of Feinstein's books get panned by the critics? I think the last one that got a good review was A Good Walk Spoiled. Oh Well, he still has adult onset acne.

I'm not sure what the critical reaction to his books usually are, but I'm fairly certain he's never been BLASTED like this in The New York Times. And it's a pretty safe bet that it will kill his ego to be torn apart so publicly in the "paper of record" (for liberals anyway). I could care less how it affects his book sales, but it's nice to see him get a taste of his own medicine after he has savaged the Hoyas in print for decades.

Actually his previous book on the Baltimore Ravens was blasted by the NY Times too.

You're right. The Times indeed gave his last book a bad review:
"Feinstein's 18th book, ''Next Man Up: A Year Behind the Lines in Today's NFL,'' is not great. It is not even particularly good."
Doesn't sound as bad as what he's in for this week, though. Can't wait to read it. Any bad review of a Feinstein book is a good review, if you get me.

Here's the link to the review (registration required). Highlights: "Spit out from the Feinstein sports-book factory just four months after "Next Man Up," "Last Dance" is particularly shoddy." "The book is packed with lazy banalities ("Making the Final Four is special for everyone"; "There is nothing quite like the tipoff of the national championship game") and sloppy factual mistakes (he leaves Arkansas off the list of repeat finalists since 1976, and despite the rampant Dukist slant, misidentifies the university's president, Richard Brodhead, as "Robert" Brodhead)." "Feinstein is not just a woeful writer; he's a woeful writer who repeats himself." "Is it too much to hope that "Last Dance" might be not just Feinstein's last "Last" book but his last book?"
