I was looking at the individual statistics for the Big East.
I was a bit surprised how no player from GU is on the radar on the individual statistics. We may have a player show up 18th in a category like Green in rebounding or higher on a lower glamour category like Hibbert at 14th in FT%.
Despite that the Hoyas are a pretty scary team to play right now. This just seams another example of our team orientation and how unselfishly we are playing right now.
Go Hoyas! Beat the Mountaineers.

We have our two guards in the Top 7 in assist/turnover ratio...that's the one that matter to me.
Our best stat is points allowed in BE play....we're #1 by about 4 points...which is just huge...we're less thn 60 points per game.
#2 in shooting % + high in assist/turnover ratio+defense = good times

Part of the reason GU players aren't showing up on Big East leader boards is that they don't qualify in particular stats categories. E.g., 3 pt. % requires 2 makes per game, but our big 3 don't average that.
Cook: (31-66) 0.456 Wallace: (35-77) 0.455 Owens (35-84) 0.417
They would be #4-6 by percentage in the conference if they qualified.

jwp there really are no players in the top20 in alot of the major categories because we are truly a complete team- any given night we can have a player go out and rack up 10 assists, or 15 rebounds, or 25 points, or 5 steals-- its jus our top6 on any given night its a question mark of who are the 2 that will step up that night

One major reason is simply pace.
The Hoyas get about 61 possessions a game. The average college team gets about 71. So if you're say, Steve Novak, you get 10 more chances to shoot, 20 more chances to rebound, 10 more chances to assist, 10 more chances to block or steal a game. Then factor in the amount of minutes everyone is getting, and you can see that a big reason why we don't have a lot of players in category leaders is that we simply have less opportunities.

Right, plus that's a big advantage for us. Take a look at the Pitt-WVU game...Pittsnogle was shutdown and that got Pitt 3/4s of the way to a W. Pittsnogle scores so much for them, plus he opens up the rest of their offense. So without him, they're aren't nearly as effective. With us, Hibbert, Green, Bowman, Owens, Cook, even Wallace can lead us in scoring in any given game and no matter which one leads us in scoring our game plan and effectiveness remain consistent. We're not as deep as some teams but this consistency and the fact that we don't over(rely) on one person for points is, in fact, our greatest strength.

It's not just points. The balance is evident in almost every statistical category. It is not yet determined who will end up leading the team in anything. Points: Bowman 252, Hibbert 245, Green 243 Rebounds: Green 131, Hibbert 128 Assists: Wallace 70, Green 67 Field Goals: Hibbert 93, Green 92, Bowman 89 3-point FG: Wallace 35, Owens 35, Cook 31 Free throws: Hibbert 59, Bowman 53 Steals: Bowman 26, Wallace 26, Cook 23, Owens 22, Green 20

During the SJU game, the announcers criticized Green for not showing up against lesser opponents. They pointed out that his big scoring nights all came against ranked or top tier teams, but that his scoring dropped off against cupcakes. I thought this comment was crazy and so stupid. Defense, passing, etc. don't show up in the box score. There is a reason that JG tied Gay for freshman of the year. He is a great player. His stats are not that great compared to some other forwards, but you don't have watch him play too many times before you realize what an amazing player he is. The stats just don't do our guys justice.
