Nothing really groundbreaking here, but in response to Evans' statement... tinyurl.com/738arSurprisingly, I can't say I disagree with the tone of the article. It looks like they understand that as much as they have to gain by playing us, we have as much to lose. I will definitely give them credit for referring to DC as host of two of the nation's premier teams, and not mentioning UMCP at all.

Astounding how this has dominated GW discussion lately. Such is life when you play two meaningful games all season (MD and NC State) and go 1-1. They basically have to twiddle their thumbs and wait for their NCAA flameout.

Much as I'd love to dismiss them, it'd be great to start playing some local teams. Great job by our students tonight calling out the three GW fans at MCI.

You would think those blowout wins against Richmond and Dayton would provide more than enough material to fill their boards with topics worth discussing.

Don't forget that super-impressive road win over Xavier. XAVIER!

Nice use of the possessive (Hoya's) instead of the plural (Hoyas).
Maybe that's why they didn't get into Georgetown.

I have no problems with a GU-GW game. Although I think the idea suggested in the article for a area tournament in which GU would play Maryland one year, GW the next, and George Mason in the third (with the rotation starting again in year 4) is more likely and makes more sense.
What bothers me about this article is the claim that GW is a college basketball "juggernaut." ;D

There are about 50 teams I would rather play every year than GDuh. Locally, I'd rather play UVA or Maryland than GDuh.
I love snubbing them. Their pathetic rage at the snub makes me laugh.

I thought it was interesting to see Pops Mensa-Bonsu and JR Pinnock at the game last night (not to mention all the GW fans who were there)...
I think it's clear the two teams should play.
HOWEVER, GW wants no part of Georgetown next year. May not want to play us this year.

Having Pops at the game last night reminds me of Rocky III, when Clubber Lang was at Rocky's retirement ceremony, and called him out. I can just imagine Pops calling up to Jeff Green's Mom: "Hey Woman! Hey Woman! How'd you like a real man?..."

Where were the calls for GU to play GW two or three seasons ago? Sure there were occasional grumbles, but for the most part no one cared. Why? Because GW traditionally sucks, and even though we weren't great GW was worse. Now, though, the Dub has a couple of decent seasons and all of a sudden they want a piece of us? Hey Colonials, you've got to earn that. Try winning consistently in a decent league for ten years or so and then come talk to us.
UMCP, though, that would be a rivalry worth having, but only if we can get a real home court advantage every other year and Williams will stop crying like a little girl.

I just wanted to take credit for starting the ridiculing of the GW fans in the young alumni section at the game last nite. Although the guy who took the hat off and tore it to pieces took it to a another level

GW has some impressive wing-players...
I think the match-up would be interesting...
I think our front-court could get Pops in foul trouble and that would pretty much be the end of it...

Wait a second...GW a DC bball JUGGERNAUT?!?! How many national titles do they have? Final Four births? Anything? 4 National Titles and 6 final fours - oh man, i remember them like it was yesterday.......Well me might not have any of those but Pops and Coach Hobbs were on COld Pizza on ESPN2 yesterday - BEAT THAT! I would take cold pizza over a national championship any day of the week.

And that's why you're from GW rather than Gtown.

That author makes a very compelling case not to play GW. All rational though points to never playing them -- except the "pretty please" argument at the end.

And that's why you're from GW rather than Gtown. I can see you are jealous of the Cold Pizza interview - it was like 5 mins long. People forget about national championships in a week or two, no one forgets an interview on Cold Pizza done by Jay Crawford, the single greatest sports figure EVER. And I am from Virginia not GW, I just go to GW. But still an amazingly witty post anyhow.

He's definitely kidding.
Though I do sort of agree with the sentiment. GW was pretty bad for a lot of years, then the last 2 they sort of got it on track and this year they're playing really well... but they have this idea like they want to challenge us for the king of DC, or something like that. I don't know, if they want to get the attention of local fans and media (and I think they do, because until recently they were always whining about being snubbed by the Post and whatever else) then they really should prove it in March. If they win more than 2 games in March, then they'll get some attention. If they do that for a few years they'll definitely get much bigger.
It seems like for GW fans, knocking off Georgetown would be a shortcut to the top of local media. The game would be heavily publicized, and GW fans think that if they win they'll get some sort of quick fix for their lack of local media attention/fan support. But really, their program just doesn't have enough history to warant such a match up. We have a long history of tournament success, despite our poor recent history. It's pretty easy for them to put together a good team for like 2 years, and then all of a sudden they want to knock us off and prove supremacy. Sorry, that's not quite how it goes.
