when we are on the road, you are at the mercy of the home team's ticket office. League rules mandate only 100 to 150 tix to the away team. So when demand is high, unless your name is on the letterhead for Hoyas Unlimited or Hoop Club, you might have problems. I think everyone understands that. What people don't understand is that they were told they would have tickets to the game, and then had the rug pulled out from underneath. I just spoke with Steve Alleva, who it should be noted was not in charge of this assignment, and he told me that the demand was great among big donors and the supply was small. He recognizes the need to set a deadline for away-game ticket orders, and says there will be a more defined policy in place next year. I do believe the success of the team and the demand on tickets took people by surprise this year. If they can learn from these experiences and improve service, that is about all I can ask at this point, although I feel much worse for those of you who had more invested in going to this game- I was just going to drive up from DC on Sunday AM to watch a good game. Now I have to watch on tv. Not the end of the world.

For JohnnyJones -- and others waiting for Syracuse tickets:
Just as an FYI, I had ordered my 2 extra tix for the Duke game before the December deadline, and tried to follow up with the ticket office. When I spoke with them, they said my tix had been mailed out, but then Wednesday evening before the game, I came home to a message saying my tix were being held at will call on campus (which particularly burned me because I was on campus that day for a doctor's appt.!). I would start calling now to find out the status.

Now I'm getting very nervous and a little angry about the Syracuse ticket situation. Like Duke, I gathered my friends together and placed an order for a substantial amount of tickets back at the end of November. The deadline for that order was end of December. What the Ticketing Office SHOULD do is at that deadline, allocate the seats by priority and "sell" those seats. Then they should factor in the johnny-come-latelies and public tickets.
With Duke, it wasn't as big a deal, because the game was only two or three weeks after the order deadline. But with Syracuse, a lot has happened and there will be a lot of bandwagoners. I just wish for once the Athletic Program and Hoop Club would recognize those people who support the team in thick AND thin.
They also need to get their act together regarding information. I called the day after we got the BET order form about tickets and donation level. The guy on the phone told me that I would have "no problem" getting tickets at my donor level. So I placed the order and simultaneously gave enough to bump myself up to the next level (I guess you can put a price on a victory over Duke). I called again and spoke with the ticket manager, who then informed me that the "guaranteed" donor level for BET tickets was well above my level. Which is undoubtedly correct, and I'm not surprised. i just would have liked to have know that before I gave more money to the hoop club and tied up $600.00 in my checking account.
I'll reiterate what others have said, though--it's not really a personnel problem, just a management and strategy problem. And guys like Steve Alleva have been just wonderful at getting people out to the games and getting us information.

this is really the part that bothers me. don't tell me i'm all set to go if I'm not. Be up front about things and if the situation changes, have the courtesy to let me know. It's just not the way the school should treat alumni, and yet, it's what they always do. They need to get their act together. They need to define a system and communicate how it works to the people who support the school. The way they handled things is bush league.

The Bad News: your promise in your Hoya Hoop Club Donation of: "Two road game tickets" is a lie. Read the fine print at the bottom that says "subject to availabilty". Basically our Big East tickets and our road game tickets go to the highest donators. In most years, this was not a problem. This year, you would have to donate $2500 or more to get Big East tickets through Georgetown, and $1000 or more to get tickets to Villanova. Sucks for long time season ticket holders like myself that are suddenly shut out of tickets that were available in previous years.
The good news: the message to Hoya boosters? You gotta up your donation level in order to score tickets to both big road games and Big East tickets next year. Sound bad for most of us, but overall, it's a good thing. I'm personally thinking of upping my donation to that level, just so I can get tickets, and if there's others out there like me, that just means more money for the program. Next year should break this year's record for Hoop Club donations.

An update from the Hoop Club meeting tonight (I posted this in the other post, but figured it fits here too.) It appears the Hoop Club will have a maximum of 450 tickets for the BET available to members. They say they are trying to get more, etc. but this is the current number. According to tonight's handout, there are 1114 members. Ohh boy.

True, but they're already gone. Those 450 have gone to "Diamond Level" or above hoop club members. There are no tickets available for gold or below, barring USF releasing a ton...
