It's a homer story promoting Tim Floyd and Ben Howland, but the first non-LA coach they consider is JT3. The article is at HoyaNews.blogspot.com. There's also a mention in that article about ACC refs getting suspended for giving away games to Duke.

who else are being promoted as candidates? off the top of my head, Pearl is doing a great job in Tennessee, Hobbs might get some love for his tactful scheduling, i mean coaching...Roy Williams has done a hell of a job..I still dont think anyone matches up against the job III has done.

No arguments against Pearl ... big up to Weber at Illinois, as well ... much like Roy W, he lost some unbelievable talent and continues to win (especially in a brutal Big10). Beilen, too, has been good. Pitt's coach as well.
They all deserve to finish second in the balloting.

That story also says Jeff Bzdelik has brought the Princeton O to the AFA, which is patently wrong. Seems Joe Scott can't get any love this year.

Is the Coach of the Year voting before or after the NCAAs?

Calipari will also get serious consideration for the way Memphis is doing this year. Calipari, Pearl, Weber, JTIII, Roy W - that's the short list.

What about Gary Williams? You shouldn't be saying things like that around lunchtime - people can get sick too easily.

Howland belongs on that short list, as well. He has done an amazing job this year with a team that's had (and continues to have) enough injuries to cover three seasons.

I don't think JTIII deserves to be Coach of the Year, not because he isn't an incredible coach who has done an amazing job, but because in this one year only, I'd put Calipari or Pearl ahead of him for certain. To me Memphis and Tennessee being where they are are much more surprising than the Hoyas success.
Of course, if we win out and wind up with a top 2 seed, I'll change that view.

Perhaps the more interesting question is who gets Coach of the Year honors in the Big East?
Don't forget that the coaches voted us to finish fifth in the conference preseason. That would seem to undermine a bit any JTIII candidacy.
Probably the best other candidates are Tom Crean and Louis Orr. Maybe Jamie Dixon should be in the mix as well. I can't remember what the preseason expectations were for those two.
Of course, if WVU finishes 16-0, it probably goes to Beilen.

1. The chances of WVU going 16-0 are about the same as the chances of a Nancy Pelosi-Bill Frist wedding. 2. Coaches actually voted Georgetown 6th, not 5th (and Pitt 7th): hoyatalk2.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=11303416973. Steve Lavin ranked the Hoyas 9th in the conference, so - not that it would count for anything - let's hope at least JTIII gets his vote for coach of the year: hoyatalk2.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=11320185704. I think Crean is a good pick. . .and I didn't even go to UConn. (ba-DUM-bum!) Really, the one coach who was spot on in the pre-season was Jim Calhoun, saying the Hoyas scared him more than any other team. It's actually kind of fun going back and looking at some of the pre-season threads. They're around pages 55-65 or so on the board. Have at it.
