From: www.kenpom.com/blog/Regarding Maryland, Chris McCray’s gone and he ain’t coming back, which hurts. Yes, they could use a point guard, but Sterling Ledbetter is not the answer, even though some Terp fans seem to swear by him. Maryland is in the midst of another bubblicious season. Just hope they can beat Clemson. This gives me an opportunity to display my personal DC area power ratings: 1. Georgetown 2. George Mason 3. George Washington 4. Maryland I don’t think I really believe that GMU is better than GW. But GW is #10 in the AP poll and one of only three one-loss teams, and yet we have little idea how good they are. They have played three games against at-large quality teams. A lopsided loss on the road against NC State, and wins against possible at-larges Temple and Maryland. Tonight’s game at Xavier should tell us something about the quality of the Colonials. I just have no basis to say anything great about them yet. The Colonials won’t see another decent team until the A-10 Tourney, so take notes tonight.

Whether you use KenPom's ranking or his version of RPI, the Big East looks to put 9(!) teams into the tourney right now. That's almost 15% of the teams. WOW!

Okay, I'm old and don't see as well as I used to, but I still think something's wrong with the math here. Or have I fallen for some bait? Help me out y'all!

15% of the tournament teams would be Big East teams...actually 14%.
Not 15% of the BE would be tourney bound.
More impressive is that the Big East would comprise 24% of the at large bids.

The denominator is teams in the NCAA tourney, not the Big East.

Thanks, fellas. Glad you younger guys can read between the lines. Or get the inferences. 'Cause I hadn't made the leap to the NCAAs. I was stuck on the BE. Duh!

Speaking of power ratings, ESPN's new Power 16 is out - nary a sniff of G'town (except noting that Pitt should be wary of us). Seton Hall apparently is more worthy, what with the "others receiving votes" nod. Link

BS - we could easily be in the 4th group there. Seton Hall is so overhyped right now. They're a bubble team going through an easier stretch in the schedule. They'll finish with 8-9 BE wins - no way are they a 4 seed.

I have mixed feelings about getting "Power 16" ratings because I like to stay under the radar a bit anyway.

They'll finish with 8-9 BE wins - no way are they a 4 seed. I couldn't agree more! Their only good win is against NC State. That W against Syracuse proved nothing because SH played TERRIBLE in that game. The only reason they won was because SU played worse than they did. They had 24 turnovers that night!!! That just goes to show that these experts seem to follow the hype instead of watching how a team actually plays. You can tell me anyone in their right mind would rank SH above the Hoyas if they were watching how we both are playing right now.... Oh well, would rather have respect in March/April than in early February!!! Go Hoyas! Beat Pitt!! UPDATE: OK, well they now changed the "Others Receiving Votes" list to include GU. Please ignore the rant.

Umm...on my screen we're in the "others receiving votes" category between NCSU and BC.

We are in the "also getting votes" section, plus Andy Katz has us at 14 in his rankings, saying, "Other nods go to BC for holding its own and to LSU for playing like a top-10 team (Georgetown is close). " sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2316370

Let people sleep on III and the boys. They don't need or care about national dap. We shouldn't either. Players, coaches and recruits know where the program stands: its back, and its only going to kick more ass. When they make a solid run through the BET and March Madness, people will have to take notice then.
This gives us plenty of time to take note of who's on the bandwagon now, and who's a poser trying to jump on in a couple months.

Here are Pomeroy's chances of winning the next three games: 65% chance vs. Pitt 91% chance vs. St. John's 71% chance vs. WVU
The math for the three games combined:
GU goes 3-0 42% GU goes 2-1 44% GU goes 1-2 13% GU goes 0-3 1%
