In today's sports nation chat Fraschilla took a question about how far the Hoyas can go this year...
the answer
"they were sneaky good, until they beat Duke. Now people know they are a legitimate top 20 team. The former high school teammates Cook and Bowman. I like the size inside. John Thompson III's Princeton style offense is a little more uptempo than his mentor's, but it is a great way to use their athleticism to spread the floor. This is a team that could get to the sweet 16 if everything falls right."
Sweet 16 seems a little more reasonable than Final 4 or Final 2 as some other ESPN analysts suggest.

as of right now, Sweet 16 is reasonable--we'll see how we do in the re-match against West Virginia and the game at Villanova--a win or two here and the Final 4/Elite Eight becomes less of a dream...
Edit: But lets beat DePaul tonight before we get ahead of ourselves...

Sweet 16 is not an "if everything falls right" scenario for this Georgetown team. Who here doesn't now believe that our Hoyas are one of the best 16 teams in America?

I will be at the DePaul game tonight...we better [bleep]-in WIN
I still think the seeds have to fall right and we still need to play well to get to the sweet 16...its not a lock but it might not be "if everything falls right"...prob somewhere in the middle

We are good enough to beat Duke and bad enough to almost lose to JMU. That is why the NCAA tournament is the best. I hope we make the tourney this year. Then, we will have a chance to really see how good we are.

The Hoyas can win the rest of the regular season games and win the BET and still lose in the second round.

Let's save the Final Four/Elite 8 talk. No matter how high you're seeded, that's EXTREMELY difficult to do.
This season will be an unqualified success if we can end that NCAA tournament drought. Certainly, if we're seeded something like 6 or higher, it might get harder to swallow the possibility of losing in the first round, but that wouldn't be the end of the world either.
But let's not go overboard and start talking like anybody who doesn't put us in the Sweet Sixteen is crazy.

Anyone who thinks that the Sweet Sixteen represents the absolute ceiling -- the very best case scenario -- for this team is crazy.

I didn't say it was the absolute ceiling. But I'm not going to talk about it at this point in the season. Its ridiculous and a potential jinx.
Don't forget, everybody--we were 8-3 in the Big East last year. There's a very good chance we'll be looking at that same record again by the middle of next week.

how about we make the tournament first? you have to take baby steps before you can walk... remember there was alot of luck involved in us making the sweet 16 the last time

My apologies then for being ridiculous and not believing in jinxes. You are forgiven. Now go knock on wood a few times, throw some salt over your shoulder and never jinx us again.
