"Fresh off a win over the top-ranked team in the country and armed with the program's first appearance in the top-25 since 2001, Georgetown University men's basketball head coach John Thompson III will be a guest on the "Mike & Mike in the Morning" show on ESPN Radio on Tuesday morning. Thompson is slated to chat with hosts Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic on Tuesday morning at 7:40 a.m. ET. The show can be heard locally on SportsTalk 980 AM. Reruns are on now later in the day on one of the ESPN TV networks I believe, now that ESPN Hollywood is cancelled.
It's on TV live on ESPN2 now right?

I caught the show on the way into work this morning...here is a quick summary, someone can provide a more in-depth one if needed
Dukie V started off his segment by talking about the intensity and desire we showed in the game, holding off Duke at the end. He then went on about how strong JTIII was for dealing with all of his family's issues while also coaching the team. He then talked about how 2 yrs ago when JTIII was hired, he knew he was the right man for the job. It was basically a love fest, including a joke about how notoriously cheap JT Jr. is. "He has the deepest pockets but the shortest arms in the business"
The JTIII interview started with a discussion about the Duke game, with JTIII repeating his line about being proud for the seniors. He also complimented the MCI Center atmosphere, saying it was great to have it loud again. He said it reminded him of the old Capital Center days. Greenberg then asked him about the upcoming ND game, JTIII re-iterated how important it was to keep focused on Big East play and to carry the momentum. They finished up with a conversation about JTIII's wife and JTIII said that it was very hard to balance everything while also coaching but that they recieved a lot of help. After the segment, M&M discussed what a great guy JTIII was and how they wished us only the best in the future, that we are a program on the rise.

Good summary - I caught it on ESPN2 live. Greenberg also asked JTIII what Coach K said when they met after the game - JTIII said he basically covered the same ground in the post-game comments "Your guys played with more intensity and deserved to win." There was also some discussion of what it was like living in the shadow of JTII. III repeated his earlier comments that he doesn't have anything to compare it with b/c it is all he has ever known. In the discussion of JTIII's wife, Mike&Mike thought they had heard that JTII wanted JTIII to take some time off and he had offered to take the reigns of the team at that time. JTIII said that it was true that his dad thought he should take some time off, but that he had no intention of taking over as interim head coach at that time. The point was null b/c JTIII said that he had not intention of stepping down w/ the extra help already at home.
Overall, nice to see the program getting some national spotlight again - let's keep the ball rolling with a win over ND. Greenberg said that we should win, if for nothing else, so Golic wouldn't be able to play the ND fight song tomorrow morning...

one last thing i forgot until reading Barker's article... JTIII used the gambler reference on the radio as well - "Do you remember that old country song, 'The Gambler,' by Kenny Rogers? Well, there's a line in there where he says you never count your money while you're sitting at the table. Well, we're still sitting at the table."

One final note: M&M played the clip from Vitale complimenting the Hoyas but more importantly making a joke about how JT Jr. probably took JTIII out for dinner Saturday night but made JTIII pay. When JTIII heard that, he laughed and said that it was exactly right. They'd gone for dinner Saturday, and it was JTIII who footed the bill.

LOL about JT II not footing the bill for dinner! But he is a country music fan- has been forever- so it doesn't surprise me that JT3 would quote the immortal Kenny Rogers. Could he be singing "Lady" at the next press conference?

Yeah, I didn't know III was going to be on - got in my car this morning and was like, "that voice sounds familiar, but who's voice sounds like that and is talking about Kenny Rogers"
High entertainment quotient for my morning commute..

I heard the interview this morning (and taped it from TV) and am ashamed that I did not realize how serious the struggle coach's wife is dealing with, and all he has to do to maintain sanity in their lives with the kids AND with his coaching. Just incredibly proud to be a HOYA fan, and at JT (III) fan. I now understand the players' enthusiasm after the game when they proudly said "we wanted to win this one for the coach, and his family (and the fans)". MORE AND MORE PROUD TO LOVE THE HOYAS and JT!!! HOYA SAXA!!
PS- Patron Saint vs cancer.... PRAY for Mrs. Thompson... AMEN
