Remember the ugly battles during the end of Esherick era on this board. My how times have change. I thought it would be great to look at how far we have come thus far as program in such a short time.
Here are all the complaints we use to have about Esh and the program:
We shoot horribly
Are defense is undisciplined
We find a way to lose close games
There is no hope in the program
We can't land a big recruit
When we do land a recruit we can't keep them
We can't beat ranked opponents.
Its been over 20 years since we beat a #1 opponent
We just can't compete at the Big East level.
We can't compete with Maryland or even GW for recruits anymore, especially locally
We never land any Dematha recruits.
We have lost out national prestige.
No recruit, let alone big time ones, would want to come here, and they don't.
We are always NIT bound.
After almost 2 years, look at the transformation JTIII and his staff has done so far, WITHOUT being great team/program YET. Freakin' amazing job. Almost everything I just listed above has been resolved, and JTIII and his staff haven't even gotten started yet. I read in the Post the other day before the Duke, that we have the highest field goal percentage in the Big East. A Georgetown coached team leading the Big East in offensive FG %!?. Are you kidding me? Man, I salute JTIII. What a coach! Things will get better.
Having said that, I still think this year's team is a work in progress. Its not going to be easy making the tournament this year. We are still learning how to be winners. The jury is still out. If we make the NCAA's I will be happy. If we don't, I wouldn't be suprised but I wouldn't be disappointed either because we are headed in the right direction as a program. Great Job JTIII. Thank you bringing some respect back to the program thus far. We are Georgetown.
