Obviously we can't expect to make MCI look like the Breslin Center but I just wanted to show everyone how amazing these pictures look. I refuse to believe that MCI can't at least be turned partially into a sea of gray. There is no reason why we shouldn't be able to get the majority of Georgetown fans at MCI to wear a unified shirt. Also, why can't we move the student section? There is no reason why it couldn't be moved to the side of the court opposite of the benches. I know its a very different situation but look at the Breslin center. Pretty much the entire area surrounding the court is student section seating. Im only talking about one sideline or even half the sideline in addition to behind the basket at MCI. Plus, this would move all of the students closer to the court and make it a lot louder and more exciting. www.msusaf.com/Izzone/12032003.cfmAlso, once we get our new group up and running we should aim to have a website like this one the izzone has to promote the group. www.msusaf.com/Izzone/

If anyone finds websites for other student/alumni booster clubs, please post them because they are invaluable as reference points for GU2007, myself, et al.

Also, once we get our new group up and running we should aim to have a website like this one the izzone has to promote the group. Not that name suggestions were asked for, but if you were looking for one for your gray t-shirt clad group, how about: The Third Herd or Third's Herd

We are looking for a name for the group, it just wasn't mentioned in this thread. Thanks for the suggestion, the more people we can get thinking about a name the better it will be.

How about "the Blue/Gray Bay"?
Or, "the Gray Area"?
"Paranoia Posse" (signs with those weird vertigo things)
"Saxa Sea"

that's pretty good, nodak.
Now, can we switch Kurt's head with Lee Scruggs? That'd be perfect!!

I don't know what to call it, but here's what it will look like... ;D Calling all Classics majors!!! Put that degree to work (other than at crossword puzzles) and see if there is a Greek and Latin combination translation for "Sea of Gray" that is kinda catchy. Otherwise we'll have to go with "Kurt's Klones"! I got almost nowhere with an internet search of dead languages other than "vastus" for ocean in Latin.

I know that the Latin word for sea is "mare." Maybe we can piece this together.

I know that the Latin word for sea is "mare." Maybe we can piece this together. Here are some potential gray words based on their prefixes: polio-, glauco-, amauro-; cani-, cinereo-, atri- It also seems that "c Edited" or "canis" could be gray in Latin. I'm not liking the "disease" words But I am intrigued by the Canis double meaning with dog (e.g. Canis lupus-the gray wolf) Greek word for sea might be: thalassa--just doesn't sound quite right How about Canis Mares? Abbreviated to Canis?

Another GU grad, who is studying to be Indiana Jones, writes this back to my query. He speaks Latin pretty much in his sleep:
So, until he writes me back, Mare Ravi or Thalassa Glaukes...
The Mare Ravi isn't bad. The "ravum" conjures up "raving" for me.

I love this idea...I will email my friend a classics grad student...and I always teased him because I thought his studies were useless. How the tide has turned!

Some interesting stuff, but I honestly don't think students will run to MCI to be part of the "Mare Ravi"...sounds more like a religious cult type thing to me...
If we want to name the section (which we really don't need to do until we actually have a respectable student section), it should probably relate to the term "Hoyas" or something involving dogs, or maybe something about the city (i.e. the "Oakland Zoo"), since we're the biggest name program inside of Washington, DC. "The Pound" sounds pretty overused, but I still like it better than "Thalassa Glaukes". I mean, so what if we use a Latin or Greek phrase? I'm tired enough of answering the "what the (bleep) is a Hoya?" - I don't think there's any reason to name it after something nobody outside the section will understand (come to think of it, most of those inside the section wouldn't get it, or care, either). Just my two cents.

Yeah, If we do name the student section or at least come up with a name for a student basketball booster club(sort of a junior hoop club) then I am heavily leaning towards "Jack's Pack" right now.
what do you think of that? I forget who mentioned that name but it was someone in the behemoth t-shirt thread.

I think it was me, but the thread itself would provide conclusive evidence.

Yeah, I just checked and I think you were the one who first mentioned it. Anyway, "Jack's Pack" is the leader right now.
Feedback please

Feedback please I think the Greek/Latin thing is a cool idea, but I think that the list of possible words for "sea" and "gray" which have been discovered so far just do not lend themselves to a great section/group name. How about the obvious: "Sea of Gray" in just plain English? One problem would be that we would need an actual sea of gray shirts or else it might be a bit silly to have a "puddle" of gray and call it a "sea." One fitting group cheer for the "C" o' G would be the (no...no...don't do it!....don't....control yourself.....nooooo!!!....) the WAVE! (drat. frontal lobe loses yet again.)

Reminded by some of the other posts. Maybe the section could could be:
a) the G-Unit
b) the G-crew (like "J. Crew")....maybe not.
or better yet, the area could be called...
c) the G-Spot (?!)

I don't think any of those would be very good, haha.
G-Unit- umm, I don't think we want our student section to make people think of 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks
G-Crew- Georgetown is preppy enough already, let's go for something that makes you want to go to a basketball game, not walk around in a pink polo shirt with your collar up
G-Spot-while hilarious I think that could cause some problems at a Jesuit institution, let's not go there
