i think it deserves mentioning that the Huskies had 16 blocks last night. Hilton had 8 and now has 24 in his last 4 games. UConn is now averaging almost 10 blocks a game. Anyone know what the all-time team record is?

Either UConn is a lot better than they looked against us, Cuse is horrendous, or both. Here's to UConn posting wins like this against the rest of the Big East, as we take care of business on our end. Is it not possible that we're pretty good, and UConn is just a bit better? I agree. I was certainly frustrated after WVU, but after the weekendand last night's 1st half, it occured to me that what we may have is a team that is starting to play within its system fairly consistently, with the result being relatively close road losses against Top 25 teams, niot necessarily including Illinois (see below). I think we would all like a little more rebounding and better defensive positioning, fewer nickel and dimers (see WVU), slightly better execution (Brandon's charge against Armstrong late v You Con, Roy taking it to Armstrong a little stronger). But while we haven't really been able to respond completely to other team's answers to our success early in games (Vandy, WVU, You Con), I haven't really seen another team, even a better team, really impose its will on us. Ill played us pretty well, but our defense was good throughout, and if DJ's late 3 doesn't rim out . . . In other words, while I agree with FL that You Con may have finally found its second gear, I think we might have one too. Tonight may tell us, and I dare not read anything from this past week into Saturday's game, but we may be on the verge of something if everybody just raises their game a little bit.

Anyone know what the all-time team record is? 16 blocks for UConn last night left them one short of the Big East record for most in a game, held by the Rejection Row Hoyas, who swatted 17 against Providence on Feb. 22, 1989.

Actually the 89 Hoyas had 17, according to a graphic during last night's game.

If the Hoya game is any indication at least a quarter of all the "blocks" are goaltends or fouls...seems like their reputation as shotblockers is getting them the benefit of the doubt. Not saying they aren't solid shotblockers, but the numbers are a little inflated me thinks.

I completely understand. My wife, also a SFS grad, makes me, a CAS grad, help our daughters out with their math homework.

Yeah, no math and science appealed to me when I was applying to SFS and now that I'm in school for engineering it's a litle daunting. I've taken 5 math classes so far - taking a fifth now - and I have 4 more to go.

when i heard that UConn was one away from the record of blocked shots in a game i reasoned that we must have the record so i went the the media guide and sure enough the hoyas held the record at 17 they reached this mark 3 times in fact. on 2/22/89 vs. providence; 11/23/90 vs. Hawaii-Loa; and 2/10/99 vs. Southem.
