At the end of last year, everybody was talking about Wallace getting squeezed out of the rotation and that Sapp, Thornton & Egerson would consume all of his minutes.
He really kept us upright last night and provided some very key buckets. I hope those that were so vocal about him being dropped out of the rotation are paying attention. He is one of the smarter players on our team and consistently delivers even if his shot is off. Let's give the guys we have on our roster a chance before we start touting the next great recruit to come in.

I don't recall anyone who wanted him dropped out of the rotation. I do recall that a few of us felt that eventually for this team to be very good in the near future it would need a guard more capable of penetrating, driving, dishing, etc. I for one still feel that way, no offense to Wallace. But I never wanted him out of the rotation because I realize the team could benefit from his smarts and his outside shot. Twenty minutes per game off the bench would be where I see him, however none of the freshmen are ready to take over so that's still at earliest a season away. That being said I gave Wallace respect on the other board last night. From the boxscore it looks as if he had his best Big East performance. Hope he keeps it up and proves me wrong.

None of our guards are deliberate in their play.
Ashanti finally exerted himself at the beginning of the 2nd half. But if you look at the 1st half again, you'll see that none of them take a look at the basket, nor seek a lane to dribble through.
They're just looking to see who they can pass the ball to next.
We have too many guys that put up numbers in high school, for EVERYBODY to be unselfish.
Somebody has gotta want to be the "Man"...
In the immortal words of Marshall Jones, "Somebody's gotta shoot it...Why not Me?"

This team does lack for a quality "The Man".
Jon played about as well as I can recall him playing last night. Maybe his best game as a Hoya. I hope he keeps it up- it will give us another quality option on offense and a hustler on D!

wallace deserves credit for playing very well the last couple of games. that said, i still think we need an upgrade at the point. wallace is still invisible on defense and never penetrates off the dribble. he is a spot up shooter and that's about it.

He's deferring to the others instead of taking the lead. That doesn't mean he should hog the ball, but he should be more assertive.

does this team need the man or in jt3 idea and plan does it need team and men it seems like different people step up different games is that that bad.. i know the theory is get a go to guy to go to at the crucial part like the end of the game but are many possiblities better than one.. just a thought about this team and the way it plays.. go hoyas ALL hoyas

Wallace is fine for the offense we run. He plays smart, he has good court sense, and he showing some nice improvement with the 3-ball. Keep it up Jon!

Couple of thoughts.
One, Brandon was the freaking MAN last night. He was playing SF and got 12 boards, four times what Hanke, their 6'11" center got. He ran the offense in the second half, had 19 and 12 and is getting no credit. Ashanti was great as well, but Brandon can fill that role as well as Jeff.
Two, I don't hate Jon, but I admit I was hoping Jesse would outplay him. I agree with MCI and others that we need some perimeter penetration and was very disappointed with Jon's play in the BE last where he disappeared for weeks on end.
He's completely blown me away so far this year. He'll still struggle with the really talented guards, but he's definitely stepped up. And I think if he can maintain his shot through the entire year, he has a good chance to continue to start next year. We'll need shooters, and he may be our best next year.

Jon's just what this team needs at PG and continues to improve each game. Remember he's only 11 games into his second year.

That said, Sapp. is exactly what we need too.
Sapp
10-15 from 2, 3-19 from 3
Wallace
14-30 from 2, 20-39 from 3
I don't think you could get two more different players in the PG rotation than these two and I'd like to see their strengths accentuated. Jessie took all threes versus Providence. That's Jon's game, not his, and I think we need both of these guys to play their respective games to maximize the point guard position.

Totally agree that Wallace played very well last night. However, he is still a bit slow to be a top flight BE guard. Can't play tight D and stay in front of a very quick point, and can't break down his man.
I will say that if he can play like he did last night most of the time, I think we'll be happy in March.

Exactly. Which is why I stated that I don't care if Sapp develops a solid three point shot this season. The Hoyas don't need that for him as much as they need someone who can drive into the paint.

That memory still haunts me... Wallace sort of reminds me of Bras. Not quick. Loves the 3, and chases after steals. Wallace works hard. Damn hard. And I love the guy for it. Better yet - he plays smart. It is easier for a guy to get better and more confident with experience than to try to get someone who plays dumb to play smart. Wallace has the fundamentals. He just needs the confidence in his shot that he lost a little of last year.
