13 games involving BE teams today. That's a lot.
(home team listed on left)
Expected wins: WVU 86, Duquesne 66 Louisville 111, Akron 85 Pitt 91, Penn St. 54 (not in the same conference, Seth Davis, you moron) ND 81, FIU 47 Cuse 58, Colgate 35 (future OOC opponent) Nova 90, Longwood 77
Expected losses: Wisconsin 77, Marquette 63 South Florida 47, Michigan 68 Buffalo 62, Rutgers 53 (Buffalo a top-level mid-major, if you recall last year during Selection Sunday) Providence 89, Memphis 97
Games that could have gone either way: Vandy 83, Cincinatti 92 (who did we want to win this game?) Va Tech 72, St Johns 63 Dayton 54, Depaul 61 (good solid road win)
No real upsets, about I think what everyone reasonably expected. One observation is that despite not having Brewington, I think Providence is going to be a tricky test for us in our BE opener. They hung around all night against a very good Memphis team, which is no small accomplishment.
And just one non-BE game that I'm sure was of interest to us: Illinois beat the living daylights out of Oregon on the road, 89-59, which: 1) reinforces that while we did not play our best on Thursday, we did NOT play poorly, 2) we did a better job on Dee Brown than most gave our guards credit for. However, it also: 3) says that maybe Oregon isn't as good as many thought they would be this year, and might not be as quality a win as we hope they will be in March.
