I was reading the Post, and it said that the team nominated Cook and Green as captains this year. Amazing. Cook, I'm not suprised because he is a senior and a leader. But Jeff as a sophomore being nominated just reinforces what I think about him already. Jeff is our version of Tim Duncan. Jeff's game is not "sexy" at all. He will rarely give us Sportscenter highlights. He doesn't fly through the air like Rudy Gay or he doesn't pound his chest like a mad man. Like Duncan, Jeff has that inner fury about him, yes the beast is there, just internally. He does all the little things that don't show up on a box score, yet has GREAT impact on his team's success. The intangibles folks, Jeff has all that. Same with Ashanti. I also see the same thing emerging in Hibbert as well.

my favorite thing about Jeff Green is when a call doesn't go his way his initial reaction is to look at the ref like he's crazy. Then he just turns around and runs down the floor to play defense. Another thing is when he scores, he acts like he has scored before, not like some of these kids who pound their chest and point to the sky after every shot.

I'm more bothered by the on-court reaction that I will name "The Duke Response". That's when a kid yells and holds his mouth open for what seems like an eternity as over-the-top emotional expressions take over his face. Everyone seems to be doing that these days. Enough of that.

You still holding onto that ? Yes, Zo has been playing very well this season and no one is happier than me. And Zo is shooting an excellent percentage. But most of his scoring isn't coming by one-on-one post moves. Never has been his strength. Obviously it never will be. He'll be in the Hall of Fame anyway IMO so it doesn't really matter. Duke, Duke, Duke, Duke, Duke.....

Great post, _way (the original post, that is). Couldn't agree more about Jeff. He is not the most flashy player. You won't find him in dunk contests or sneaker comercials, but he's the kind of player you find on winning and even championship teams. Doesn't get too flashy, just plays the game hard. Gimme that over the flashy player who makes the highlite reel but screws up all the time too any time.

I thought BB was a/the captain... Nope, according to a couple articles I've read, the team elected Jeff and Ashanti (I thought BB and DJ wouldve been captains before Jeff too).

Like that rebound he had in the 2nd half where he just redirected it to DJ who was wide open for a three (that he missed)? That was a sick play.

I love that reaction too. He seems just baffled that the ref made a particular call. He doesn't yell and scream, or throw a fit. It's more of a (if I can put words with a facial expression) "Man, are you serious you just called it that way? Okay, fine. I'd love to argue sir, but I must block a shot on the other end. . ."

Am I the only one who's a bit disturbed by this? Granted Green may be the best player on the team, but shouldn't an otherwise outstanding player like BB who's given so much to the school and team get this honor in his senior season?
Let's be real... being a captain in basketball isn't what it is in football, baseball or hockey where you're expected to lead in a way you aren't necessarily in basketball. Its a bit of a token position if you ask me (I have no idea who last year's captains were). Something like this makes me wonder about BB's popularity with his teammates or any other issues that may be festering in that lockerroom...

It is what it is, and if the players voted that way, so be it. If it really is the "token position" that you claim it is, Brandon shouldn't care.

I'm with Buffalo on this one. For a guy who's been a four year starter, you have to wonder why he didn't get the C on merits alone.

1. I believe the players voted on captaincy. 2. Some people aren't leaders, and that's quite alright. 3. Brandon may be a leader, but maybe Jeff is a more of one.
It isn't a big deal unless someone makes it one.

I think Brandon is talented, but he has never really grabbed a leadership role on this team, other than maybe by default (a la Gerald Riley) as leading scorer, etc.
