I know all of us hated the Coach K commercials for AMEX, calling it basically "unofficial recruiting" by plastering his face countless times on TV hyping Duke while somehow trying to plug a credit card company.
There's a new Jumpman commercial that came out recently featuring Carmelo. Featured prominently is our favorite coach, Jim Boeheim, who smiles at the camera as Carmelo goes into his rickety Baltimore housing project before ending up as a Denver Nugget entering an brightly-lit arena at the end of the commercial.
Isn't this blatant Syracuse recruiting as well? Seems like a message sent to high school ballers out there: Come to 'Cuse, and we'll get you into the NBA like we did with 'Melo.

this one doesn't sound too bad to me (i haven't seen it). i mean college coaches are allowed to do commercials and all. and this certainly doesnt sound on the same type level as k saying he prepares young men for life as well as basketball while plugging a completely unrelated credit card product. but maybe i'll have to see it first.

Yeah, Boeheim appears for about two seconds, doesn't say a word, and I don't believe he's wearing any Syracuse apparel and neither is Anthony (it was just on again so I got a second look). In fact I had to think for a second before I realized who it was. Maybe I was just clouded by the crappy football game I was watching at the Meadowlands.
It doesn't seem too bad to me. I was more offended by the horrible play on words of the shoe's title, "B More."

Its a horrible commercial, period. Does it give Boeheim an advantage? Perhaps. Its free publicity after all. But nothing saves the commercial from its suck-atude. Of course I have to say the commercial is not House of Mutombo bad. That was the worse although the latest Dwayne Wade promo is close to taking that title.

I was more offended by the horrible play on words of the shoe's title, "B More." Actually, "B More" is just the name of the commercial/tag line for the shoes. Their name is the Carmelo 5.5, continuing on the name of Melo's shoe last year, the 1.5. This year's shoe is a "remix" of the Air Jordan V and VI. I think that the commercial is pretty great, but I knew that the Boeheim appearance would turn some heads on here. I do think that it is somewhat free advertising, but I think Jordan Brand/creative staff would counter that the commercial is about Melo's roots, of which Boeheim is briefly a part of. I know too much about sneakers, and I don't even read Niketalk that much anymore. Ohh well. Ohh, and I like that Wade commerical too. To each his own.
