We're gonna beat Duke!!!!
I'm just so Giddy watching this Davidson game!!!!
Hoyas have to be disciplined on defense, and patient on offense...
If Duke overplays us like they're doing Davidson, we're gonna kill them with our guys cutting to the hoop...
If our guys get back on defense, and we make Duke play half-court offense, we're gonna win this game...
The only things that could keep us from winning is Dockery steppin' up, or foul trouble with our 'Bigs'...
Just remember...Aggypryd said it first...and he was dead serious when he said it...

After undefeated Georgetown knocks off #1 Duke, we'll be ranked in the top 10.

No, Dukie Vitale will say it was just an aberation due to some weird case of food poisoning. Remember Duke can do no wrong.

Man, is Duke ever off TV? Its a Saturday night during rivalry week for college football and ESPN 2 is airing a meaningless game against Davidson?

Actually, I dont think youre the first to say it. In fact, it seems like a lot of people think were going to beat them. The Duke game is something we use a lot in trying to sell season tickets, and honestly I think a lot of students have it in their mind already that this is going to be our big win and were going to rush the court and be on sportscenter etc. etc. etc.
Not so fast. This is a very good team that were going to be playing, and while I hope thats how it turns out, I'd rather be prepared for the worst and then be pleasantly surprised with a win. It isn't fair to our guys to assume or expect that they can beat one of the best teams in America.

I mean it makes no difference to me when playing Duke. A win is a win. It would be just as gratifying beating Illinois or Oregon. A win is a win. I mean, its not like Duke is in our conference. Its not like we battle them for recruits in the local area. So I don't understand the fascination/fixation/obession with beating Duke, besides the fact they are a top rank team. I mean its not like they are our rival or anything. Now if we were Maryland Terp fans I could see the obession. But we are Hoya fans, no? I mean don't we play in the Big East Conference. I mean if they are on TV, all you have to do is change the channel. I mean, you don't have to watch the Duke game. There are plenty of great football games on tv today. I mean, its not like we are fans of Duke, right? Well, it does kind of make you wonder hearing all this Duke bashing on this Hoya message board, and in the same breath hearing praise for Jim Calhoun's coaching abilities and defending Rudy Gay's co-rookie of the year award. I don't know, it kind a leaves you scratching your head.

Last year, I kind of had a theme that I'd talk about from time to time on here and HoyaReport, which was, "We're not as bad or as good as we think we are." We always fell somewhere in between.
My motto for this season is, "Why not us?" Pundits be damned. You see MSU and Stanford go down today, and SU, Wake, and others looking sloppy right now, and you have to think anything is possible with our season.

Lets not jump to conclusions here. I will be the first to say we have the best chances to knock off the dukies, but this is the #1 team in the nation for a reason. They are very deep, but you can easily see their negatives. For us to beat them, we must jump on them EARLY. In every game this year for duke, they have been trailing in the beginning of the game. Also, ya, duke is on once again every game this year.

I was thinking the same thing, are every one of Duke's cupcakes on ESPN?? ESPN seriously has to get off its knees on this Dook thing. A Dook-alum friend of mine asked to check his email on my laptop last week and somehow wound up on the Dook bball schedule. I asked that same question, and his response was, "no, the Greensboro game is only on regional TV." The smugness is astounding.

The reason they're on TV is because we'll watch them.
The reason that the Hoyas were on TV so much during the 80's (even though just about everyone outside the beltway hated them) is because people would watch.

I still believe we're gonna beat those Bamas!!!
I think I'll sacrifice a few chickens and throw their blood on JJ to solidify the victory...

...We're gonna beat Duke this year!!!
doesn't really have the same 'punch' as it did last year, but it'll be a good victory down in Cameron if we can get it...
yeah...I'm bored...

Aggy- Thanks for reviving this post. Very prophetic. I never knew you went out on a limb like that. How about this line, "If Duke overplays us like they're doing Davidson, we're gonna kill them with our guys cutting to the hoop..."
Exactly what happened. Plus JG destroyed lottery pick Shelden Williams.
It is August. Thanks for the reminder.

I was reading some of the other threads during the lead-up and right after the Duke game. It was a very exciting time for the Hoya program. (It's around pg 106, if you get bored like I did)
Unfortunately, I'm only good for one "Joe Willie Namath" prediction a decade. I used mine up last year.
But I think the boys will be good enough for awhile, so I won't really have the opportunity to do so.

Plaudits to you, aggy. I don't typically go in for self-congratulation, but I'm happy to make an exception for you in this case.
