it's not only financial problems that plague building an on campus arena, but also the fact the the georgetown community would never approve it because of the traffic problems it would create.
i think we will be playing at the mci center for many years to come.

FWIW, the neighborhood signed off on the 2000 Campus Plan which included the renovation of McDonough. That's not the issue here.

Actually, the campus plan only means that the University could potentially bring up the project at a later date.
Approval of a project as a part of the campus plan does not mean it will sweep through the approval process. It is merely a requirement for any further processing, at which point the neighborhood can launch all of its attacks on how the University is trying to destroy the surrounding area by building an empire, etc.
It's better to have it included in the campus plan, but having "renovations to McDonough" or however it was included on the plan, does not mean that a plan to increase seating (especially on any significant scale) will avoid significant regulatory and/or political hurdles. It is a necessary but not sufficient step, in terms of actual project approval.

Well, we all knew the U's financial situation was very dire- no surprises there. They need to do more, and if threat of downgrading forces them to make changes, then so be it. We all know there have been a lot of people working at that University that have not been pulling their weight for a while now.
That said, I would rather GU be in a position to not fire anyone. But then, I'm kinda a softie that way.
