Georgetown ranks third among current Big East teams in terms of the number of alumni on NBA rosters at the start of the 2005-06 season. The list:
UConn 9 Cincinnati 6 Hoyas 5 Nova 4 Syracuse 3 Providence 3 Notre Dame 3 Louisville 3 De Paul 3 Pitt 2 Seton Hall 2 Marquette 2 St. Johns 2 Rutgers 0 West Virginia 0 South Florida 0
I believe that the Hoyas led the NBA in Big East alumni every year from 1987-88 through 2003-4 As late as last year, the Hoyas were tied with UConn with 8 players, but with the loss of Jerome Williams (cut by the Knicks), Jahidi White (cut by Cleveland), and Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje (just cut by Orlando), the recent talent deficit in the program has become more apparent. The Hoyas number could well fall further since Othella, Dikembe, and Zo are all near the end of their careers, and only Jeff Green (likely) and Brandon Bowman (maybe) are set to join them.

Theres no doubt that there was a period where talent fell off, and the number of Georgetown alums in the league is likely to decrease over the next year or two when Dikembe and Zo retire rather than increase. Nonetheless, I think we are most definitly back on the upswing, and there are a number of players in the Hoya Family at present who will be in the NBA eventually. Jeff for certain, and Roy and Brandon most likely as well. I also think Pat Jr. has a very realistic shot to be a pro despite how he played at Indiana. He has enough height to play the NBA 3, and he is certainly a good enough run-jump athlete. In his years at Georgetown he'll need to prove that hes got legitimate outside game and that he can defend, but the natural ability is definitly there. Plus, don't forget that at least two of our recruits this upcoming year have been touted as future NBA stars, and no one is quite sure yet as to just how good our '05 recruits are.
All in all, I think our rep as a producer of NBA talent may have gone down a bit, but its on the upswing again, just like a lot of things in the program.

Just off the top of my head, I know Ron Artest is in the league (he's my sleeper choice for MVP - just watch) and I think Zendon Hamilton is holding on somewhere for the Johnnies. And Omar Cook was on a roster for part of last year. So I'm not sure that those stats are reliable.
I don't think Jahidi and Ruben are on a roster at the moment, but they both should get a lot of looks as the season goes by. Big guys are always in demand. It looked like Nene tore his ACL last night - Jahidi and RBB should stick close to the phone.
Including Pat Jr, that's 4 guys on the roster with a realistic NBA shot. Pretty cool. A lot of people think Egerson could be at that level too, if he picks up his intestity.

DerMarr Johnson.
EDIT: and, apparently, Dontonio Wingfield.
Also, it is ridiculous Jahidi doesn't have an NBA job. Completely underappreciated skills.

Sorry for the St. John's typo, the number should be 2. The sixth Cincinnati player is Ruben Patterson.

Interesting how the dynamics have shifted on Georgetown's NBA players:
1980-1989:
6-5 and under: (6) Duren, Floyd, M. Jackson, Wingate, C. Smith, J. Jackson 6-7 and under: (3) Shelton, Martin, R. Williams Over 6-7: (2) Ewing, Gillery
Since 1989:
6-5 and Under: (1) Iverson 6-7 and Under: (1) Churchwell Over 6-7: (8) Mutombo, Mourning, Reid, Harrington, J. Williams, White, RBB, Sweetney
If someone had told you in 1989 that only one Georgetown guard would make it in the NBA for the next 16 years, would you have ever believed it?

interesting thread considering UNC has 5 from last year's team alone. That being said, Georgetown has traditionally stayed away from recruiting one and done type players (forget Rush!) or so I tell myself... I do also think Ewing also has a shot if he can developp the skills he already possesses.

Don't forget about Macklin--he was considering jumping straight out of HS. And some think that Summers is going to make a bigger impact. I think that JT3 is going to be sending some of his players the NBA's way, especially if he keeps recruiting like this.

Hey, didn't mean to scare you on Nene. I don't know anything you don't. But did you see the injury? Looked bad - like every other ACL tear I've ever seen. When they initially diagnose a "sprain" of the ACL, it probably means at least a partial tear and that probably means surgery. But I could be wrong.
No doubt on Macklin, but I was just referring to guys currently on the roster (or half on the roster, in Pat's case). Macklin was a LIKELY early entry before the rule change, by basically all accounts. If he spends 2 years on the hilltop, we got lucky. And Summers hasn't generated that sort of buzz just yet, but he now measures in at 6'9'' 235, with all sorts of perimeter skills, so it's fair to say he has a good shot at being well compenstated someday.
