Hahaha, the mechanical bull seems woefully out of place.
I want to encourage everyone in the area to come check out the whole nights worth of festivities. Hoya Blue and the Athletic Department are working hard to make this the best Georgetown Midnight Madness in history. The whole day should be a really good time, so don't miss it.

"woefully out of place"?!?
I disagree...this is a brilliant idea. Nothing is funnier than someone on a mechanical bull...nothing.
Good work Hoya Blue!

correction: nothing is funnier than the disparity in roughness level used for hot girls and guys. the operators are almost always merciless. like most men, they love to see hot women bounce and jiggle about for the longest time possible...while nothing is funnier than seeing a tough guy get tossed hard in 1.5 seconds.

The mechanical bull is not out of place - maybe its everything else that's out of place ... yeah ... think about that ...

Roy Hibbert + Mechanical Bull = Instant comedy.
(I know -- not a chance, fear of injuries, etc., I'm just saying it would be hilarious.)

Thank you all very much. However, there was a set back for Hoya Blue today - Vice President Tod Olson decided to not allow Hoya Blue to serve alcohol at Hoya Palooza - we are very diappointed with this decision and trying to work with the administration to fix this issue because we honestly weren't even encouraged to attend the meeting where the decision was made. We had previously received every assurance that we would receive this approval and are very unhappy about what has taken place today. Nonetheless, we will still be holding Hoya Palooza - alochol or not.

My have times changed. A long way from 50 cent 16 oz cups of Heineken sold at McDonough at games when Thompson was first there. Hoya paranoia doesn't mean what it used to.

What we were told is that the very tradition of Hoya Blue is something that Olson "wants to re-open to discussion" and that he was concerned about the "serving of alcohol before a sporting event and the liability issues that it causes".
1. The first phrase sounds like code for: I'm going to axe this just like the University axed the Block Party.
2. The second phrase is absolutely ludicrous becuase HOMECOMING is the next weekend and nothing says beer served before a sporting event with potential liability issues like HOMECOMING.

This is crap, this is crap and this is unfair!
No, seriously, what are they so scared about? That people will have a great time, school spirit will increase, and more students will buy season tickets?

I am shocked that Todd Olson would be the one to neg alcohol at this event. He has seemed much more receptive to serving beer in a controlled environment than his predecessors. I hope there is some real discussion and a reversal of course.

There has never been "real discussion" at Georgetown, particularily when it comes to student issues. The Administration hands these decisions down like edicts.
EDIT: I swear I'm not that bitter, but that's just how these types of decisions appeared to me during my time there. No consultation with students at all on decisions that were essentially made in closed meetings within the Administration. And above all, complete lack of information on how decisions are made and why they were made.

I think St. Pete meant the "very tradition of HoyaPalooza" not Hoya Blue, haha. Anyway, I'm really dissapointed and angry about this. We've worked so damn hard on this and we've put in so many safeguards to make sure that the event is safe and that everyone drinks responsibly and that there will be no liability issues. However, after we get through the first stage of approval they decide to cancel it behind our backs. Meanwhile there is uncontrolled drinking at nearly every major college tailgate and sporting event yet we can't have a small, controlled event with a limited number of kegs, drink tickets, wristands, DPS officers, ID checkers (who are also being watched by DPS to make sure ID'S are being checked), a separate beer garden, water specifically donated to promote healthy drinking, and nearly everything you could think of in order to make it safe, plus about an hour and a half from the time HoyaPalooza ends until the doors open at McDonough, YET THIS IS A LIABILITY SOMEHOW!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! And people wonder why there isn't enough school spirit at Georgetown and why alumni don't want to give back.

Is there anyone who has enough power to put pressure on Tod Olsons decision? Can we go over the top, attack from the bottom? I feel so powerless, this sucks.
