Had a great day yesterday coming home from work and flipping the channels to find GU-SJU game from '85 on CSTV--of course it was the lone loss we had to Johnnie's that year, but it was fun as hell to watch. Musburger and Packer called the game and it was just great to see the legends on the court and when you see a guy like Mark Jackson for SJU not playing much--he was the backup PG on that team to Mike Moses, that speaks to the talent on the floor. The atmosphere was electric and Hoyas were on a 29 game winning streak including the previous year's NCAA run to National Championship. Down by 18 with 9 1/2 minute to go they go on a pattened run and end up losing by 1 pt due to old rules of clock NOT stopping under a minute and Chris Mullin wisely didn't even inbound the ball as Hoyas cut it to one with 8 seconds left and Mullin didn't "get control" of ball until there was 4 seconds for the inbounds play.
All I can say is that "flashback" game brought back memories and provided a glimpse into how great things are going to be again on the Hilltop---starting this year. Big games, exciting teams, etc... it's just fun to be on the way back and this time around it's even going to be more enjoyable as I feel we are in this "together" in terms of the rebuilding job done by Program. Can't wait for these days to return and just hope we can accelerate the process! ;D
Scout.Com had an update today with Anthony "Biggie" McClain the 7'0 Center from National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, MD and he had GU "clearly leading". Talked of how he loves the "atmosphere, the people, and he just really fits in with program". Wake Forest, Kansas, and Virginia Tech are also recruiting him. He's an '07 Recruit for those unfamiliar with him and he's someone who has gone from what coach Trevor Brown described as "not being able to walk/chew gum at same time" to a talented athlete who runs the floor extremely well and has great hands. Improved as much as any player Brown's had and he's coached Kevin Durant and many other top rated players.
Last but not least, heard that GU will have at least 2 of the 3 committed players visiting for Midnight Madness and for those of you who will be there make sure you let them know they are family and welcome them to program. Dajuan Summers and Jeremiah Rivers will be there and hopefully Vernon Macklin can make it too, but let's show them that being a Hoya is being part of a family and doesn't matter if you are suited up or not, we're all in this together! Also hearing that people like McClain, and many local underclassmen/recruits will be visiting along with Devan Bawinkel from Illinois for his official visit. It is an exciting time to be a Hoya fan, but the atmosphere that kids see/feel during events like this does play a factor and can even help GU more if they see just how passionate/hungry everyone is to get this program back where it belongs--in chase for National Championship/Big East Championship on a YEARLY BASIS!!
