For some reason, I had it in my head that Barker Davis was a GU grad. But I was listening to a show on Fox Sports radio this afternoon and Davis was on as a guest to talk about college football. Specifically this weekend's Florida-Tennessee game, and the host said Davis knows the rivalry well as Tenn. is his alma mater.
Had to run before the interview really got started so I don't know if maybe the host was mistaken in his introduction. Anyone know whether Barker's a Hoya or a Vol? Just wondering. Thanks.

My understanding is that Barker is a Hoya and I believe wrote for THE HOYA when he was at GU. I don't know that first hand, but that is what I believe is the case.
Maybe they got their facts wrong (FOX?!?! No, it COULDN'T be!) Or maybe he got a graduate degree there?

Yeah that's what I thought. Guess I shouldn't be surprised that the guy on Fox was wrong... Barker's Hoya stuff always sounds like he has a little more at stake than the average beat writer. That's what makes it so much better than the Post coverage, I think. Anyhow, thanks for the feedback.

He was a former Hoya. And current Hoya fan.
That is why he is the best of area writers covering our guys.

Barker and I graduated in the same class, 1994. I'm certain he is a Hoya but he may have grown up in Tennessee. That I'm not sure about.

Does Tennessee have a journalism grad program? If so, that could definitely explain things.

Sounds like a TN native maybe. Too bad he writes for the times as we need someone like him at the post that really follows GU hoops. Could I also get a little love for GU football? They cover every school including IAA Howard and we rarely get a preseason mention.

His college football coverage is some of the best work you can find from a beat reporter working outside of the hotbeds of college football. His golf coverage is pretty fantastic too. Those two sports and the Hoyas are where his passions lay it seems.
