Assuming we fill out with a fourth recruit then I think that means we have one for next year. It would seem that spot would go to a guard like Wright but I have heard we pressed really hard on McLain. You can't teach height right?
Any thoughts on which direction we head assuming we get Crews?

yawn. the embarrassment of riches that we have in the program right now has lead to this? Speculation on who will get here in 2 years. My question is: Are we will still in AI's kid's top five? Why worry about 2 years from now? The next 2 yrs. are going to be great. Mad props to III.

Why worry about 2 years from now? Because after we sign one more recruit from the '06 class we have that luxury. We have something going for us now that we haven't in a very long time. We should capatalize on that. Everyone get that limp bizkit song in your heads: "Keep rolling rolling rolling rolling."

It's a little too early to really know. There's also a good chance that we recruit more than 1 for 2007, as theres a pretty good chance that Jeff will have gone to the NBA after his junior year, Macklin has gone after one year, or we have one transfer after this season or next. The likelihood that none of those happen, AND we add a 4th this year, is pretty low IMO. So we're probably looking at 2 open 'ships for 2007.
Ideally they'd be used on one top notch guard and one big, and McClain and Wright would be a perfect combo in my opinion. Wright is probably the best player overall that we are recruiting in 2007. I'd be ecstatic if we landed him much like I was when we landed Macklin. He is a "franchise player". Unfortunately he is not leaning in our direction, or at least it's been reported that he isn't. He's real high on the ACC, specifically NC state, Duke, and Maryland. He has an offer from GU and hasn't ruled us out yet. Hopefully the committment of a talented big like Vernon whom Wright knows (theyre on the same AAU team) will make him reconsider and realize that his best bet is to stay in DC.
McClain, IMO, is a perfect fit. He's a true center and an area guy. He could come in as a freshman and spend one year as Roy's backup before assuming the starting role as a sophomore. Plus, even though its very early, it definitly seems like he wants to be a Hoya.
Two other names to keep in mind are Donte Greene from Towson Catholic and James Hickson from Georgia. Greene is a PF who will likely switch to SF over the course of his career (like Jeff and Summers) while Hickson is more of a true PF it seems. Both are Top 50 players for whom we have as good a chance as anyone. I wouldnt be surprised to see the staff put these guys highest on the priority list even though at this moment we seem to have things under control at those positions (remember a lot can change between now and their arrival).

What is the deal with Said? He might never get off the bench again... love the guy but I don't really see him fitting in...

And he's required reading for any course taught by a liberal professor at GU. But the deal with Sead is that he'll never get off the bench again. I don't think he would transfer this late in the game but if he wants to get some PT the thought might cross his mind. JTIII seems pretty willing to start young kids with promise over veterans, so Sead probably has a lot of pine time ahead of him.

Speaking of music, the new Kanye West album is SOLID for all you hip-hop fans out there. Best song - "Gone" with Consequence and Cam'ron, or "My Way Home" with my man Common.

Sead is in it for the long haul... He's shown a lot of team spirit despite not playing. He got a a scholarship from a great academic school and he's smart enough to realize that shouldn't be thrown away in an effort to gain a few minutes per game. When he graduates he'll have the option to try to play ball overseas somewhere or he can use his GU degree to try to get a job here in the U.S.
When you think about it.... each team has 13 basketball scholarships, yet no coach could possibly split minutes 13 ways. Most teams run 8 or 9 man rotations at most. Thus you're inevitably left with 3 to 5 scholarship players who will not get regular minutes. For our team this issue is even more severe because we have a walk on in the regular rotation as well. There are most definitly going to be some scholarship players who don't get minutes. It's a shame that some people seem to think that ALL of these players are going to transfer at some point. I know transfers are a lot more common today than in the past and Georgetown has certainly had it's share of transfers in the past few years. But I hate to think that it will continue once JTIII has logged a few years in the program. Whatever happened to scholarship athletes who are content to get a great education for free?
But anyway, yea, Sead is here for 4 years. And I hope that other recruits who don't get PT in the future handle it as well as he has. He'll graduate after next year, so he's got a chance to be on a very successful team, and his 'ship will be open for us to recruit with in the 2007 class.

I think I have already had this conversation on this board, but the only reason I am aware of that Limp Bizkit song (which I had to Google to find out it was Limp Bizkit) is because I kept hearing it on Patriots promotions or highlights or something. I couldn't give you another line from it. But I think it works here if you are familiar with it.

Why worry about 2 years from now? Everyone get that limp bizkit song in your heads: "Keep rolling rolling rolling rolling." I refuse to get any song by Limp Bizkit stuck in my head. I think that there is no harm in starting to line up class after class of recruits if we can do it - and JT III seems incredibly capable of doing so.

Thus you're inevitably left with 3 to 5 scholarship players who will not get regular minutes. Do most teams use their full compliment of scholarships each year? For those teams that only go 6-7 deep most years, are the rest of the 'ships given to practice squad players, or do they rely on walk-ons for the 12th-13th man? It seems that there woudl be an advantage to keeping 'ships in hand most years, in that you'd save money, and be able to use them if/when recruiting requires it. Obviously, with the new regime and the desperate need for talent, JTIII is trying to use every available slot.

These players sound like great additions to a solid and deep squad, the key ingredient when we won the NCAA tournament.

People I talk to say we have as good a chance as anyone for Wright. IOW, he's not a done deal to the ACC. Also, Biggie, from what I hear, is better than Roy NOW!!

id, shhhh! Don't say that too loudly around MCI or Jersey34!! Just yankin' your chains guys; Roy continues to improve. FWIW, Rivals rates Biggie #97 in the country, not that we can put much faith in rankings. Wright is around #16 and Smith #18. Other local (local meaning VA and Bmore as well) big men like Vaughn, Greene, Hickson and Dupree are in the top 100 as well. Plus there's a certain Michael Beasley rated #3 behind OJ Mayo and Bill Walker whom people claim will never really attend Charlotte. The recruiting of local big men in Class of 2007 should be very interesting to watch.....

Beasley is overrated because he feels himself too much. Talented, but not as good as he thinks he is.

Scout has McClain I think at #48. I'm too lazy to check.
I don't think Jeff is around for his senior year so I see at least two openings and Wright and McClain would be perfect. According to guhitman Wright and his family are really happy to see Macklin go to Gtown which suggests Chris might end up joining him.

Beasley eats up every tournament he plays in - if he isn't as good as he thinks he is he must think he's REALLY good. Weird academic situation, from what I've read.
McClain hasn't played a ton of AAU ball, and when he has, he hasn't been featured. Lots of good buzz, but still seems like an unknown. I'm guessing he'll be used a lot more in high school this year, so we'll have a better read on how good he is. We seem very well positioned if he turns into a beast.
