Not the best mind you, but the most important. Does anybody say "I'm Back" as loudly as Big Ticket? Welcome to G'town, brother. This is the best decision you have ever made.

I don't know, but I haven't been this excited since...well...DaJuan Summers. As good as Ticket supposedly is, to me it is the complete class that has got me so thrilled...a Top 15 interior INTIMIDATOR...a Top 35 paragon of versaility (Jeff's size, great outside touch, cleans the glass) and a 6'4" msucular, athletic, team player point guard who just needs to refine his shot.

I think it is safe to say the Class of 2006 is the most important recruting class we have seen in 20 years -- for exactly the reason you have stated, Frank. Big Ticket alone is HUGE -- but the class as a whole send a scream from the Hilltop hear round the world -- WE ARE BACK!!!!

Most important? No!
In the last 24 years, players like Reggie Williams, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo, Othella Harrington Allen Iverson, Anthony Perry, and Mike Sweetney all had their share of national importance. (Conversely, not getting players like Kenny Anderson and Grant Hill had some national impact as well.)
Let's not try to put pressure on what is only a high school senior or on this recruiting class. Remember, the recruiting class of 1992 had the #1 (Harrington) and #6 (Spencer) ranked recruits in the nation. Future results aside, that was a monster recruiting class.

I gotta go with Frank on this one. Two years ago, the program was in free-fall -- Mike, Tony and Drew left. Brandon almost left. We can't even recruit Pat Ewing, Jr. We go on and have our worst season since the very early days of JTII. Alumni are foaming, the board is rabid. And then there's one major hire -- Frank Rienzo decides that hiring a guy named John Thompson worked once before, why not try it again?
16 months later, ESPN thinks a good argument could be made putting us in the Top 25, the son of the greatest Hoya ever comes back to campus, and we beat THE DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPIONS AND A GREAT RECRUITER for a Top 15 player.
I remember the Cap Center in '96. I'm getting goosebumps. What was the line, first respect, then fear. Get ready for mind-numbing fear.

Its a bit funny how the older posters (no offense DFW or anyone else ) seem to keep harping on the days of the 80's and early 90s and how great some of those classes were while others are eager to declare this as the best class since X date. It couldn't matter less IMO. Let's just be happy, eh? Regardless of HOW great of a get this compared to the past, it's a great pickup for the Hoyas and a great day for the program. Enjoy!

It's got to be right up there -- mainly because of how far we had fallen relative to where we were.....to me the best part is that we are back to building our sucession of talented big men.

My answer to the original question is no, but it definitely sends the right message: GU IS BACK!
