"Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown." Current status of Ivy League presidents: Harvard: Open search following the six month term of Claudine Gay Yale: Open search following retirement of Peter Salovey Penn: Open search following 17 month term of Liz Magill Cornell: Open, as Martha Pollack announced her retirement May 9. Columbia: Not yet, but.... a 65-35 no-confidence vote in Minouche Shafik passed the faculty last week. Dartmouth: Student no-confidence vote in Sian Leah Beilock passes 52-48 last week. Meanwhile, Brown still seems to be OK and the Princeton president will join his class in the Reunion parade Saturday with 20,000 or so guests, because that's what they do.

I wouldn’t worry too much about President Beilock’s job security at Dartmouth. She’s less than one year in the job; she appears to be popular with the alumni (although a small sample size, my wife and her friends think very highly of her); and a no-confidence vote of students is as predictive of the future as an Iowa State Fair straw poll two years before a presidential election. Plus, she’s pretty good at making hype videos.
I think a bigger threat would be another university trying to hire her.

We'd be lucky to have somebody like her. Have met her a few times, know others who know her well.

Not just a vote of students, but also (some of) the faculty: www.nytimes.com/2024/05/20/us/dartmouth-president-beilock-censure.html

Dartmouth did very well not limiting their search to candidates who were alumni or insiders. Georgetown should do the same. Alumni presidents are less common at Georgetown than you may think. Leo O'Donovan was the first alumnus hired as Georgetown president since 1912 and the second since 1882. O'Donovan never taught at GU nor held a dean's position prior to being selected--his connection was being on the board of directors.

Would not repeat the search process that chose O'Donovan--he was way over his head in the job
