Found this article online after doing some reading about BC's debut of Messina College, a self-contained junior college for first-generation students in New England. This comes a year after Kevin O'Brien SJ helped open Fairfield University's "Bellarmine Campus" for much the same purpose. These programs have multiple purposes to them: it expands opportunity to first-gen kids who might not be ready for a four year education, and also allows for additional enrollment once their associate's degree is in the books. Georgetown's first-gen program is best in class so this is probably not in Georgetown's future, but the article below, dated in 2012, asked if this was a concept for other Jesuit colleges, presumably those with enrollment issues or less diverse student bodies. With many Jesuit universities in regions with declining populations and enrollment challenges ahead, it's likely getting some discussion among various schools. epublications.marquette.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1796&context=conversations
