Agreed. What a dumb comparison. Kolek was freshman of the year in the Atlantic 10 and led the big East in assists in his first year at Marquette. All of a sudden Rowan is going to become a star. I watched a bunch of Kolek this weekend. I am not saying it's impossible for him to get there, but Rowan Brumbaugh is nowhere near Kolek level at the moment. And I don't think he is anywhere close to where Kolek was a year or two ago, either. Again, I wish we had kept him, but we shouldn't overestimate his ability simply because he left. Put differently, before we thought he would transfer, nobody was saying to themselves, "I am sure glad to have a point guard staying who is Tyler Kolek 2.0!" Still, I wish Rowan the best, and I wish he had stayed. Hopefully we can find others to fill the roster who exceed his abilities, since otherwise, we are not going to get better. I'm old enough to remember people being upset that guys like Jamari Sibley and Tyler Beard and the kid who went to Lafayette that I can't even think the name of were leaving. Fans always overinflate the future ability of their own when someone leaves.

To be fair folks were mainly complaining about the constant roster turnover which is my biggest complaint about RB leaving. Watching Houston players like Shead or Roberts makes me very jealous of the developmental skills of Sampson.

And nobody really cares about that show cause anymore ... hopefully Kenny Johnson is a winner!

That said, Houston also has transfers in guys like LJ Cryer, Damian Dunn, and Mylik Wilson. They might not have been impact players but Houston has had its own transfers, too. In the 2021 class, Houston lost Tramon Mark and Kiyron Powell to transfers eventually. In the 2022 freshman class, Houston lost Robbie Armbrester. But no doubt, Sampson has done an above average job at keeping guys around. Again, as I've said, it's easier to do that when you're a really excellent team as Houston has been now for several years. Right now, the most important thing is to win games and improve substantially. And absolutely we need to keep most of the freshman in the fold more than one year.

The defining characteristic of Georgetown basketball over the last decade has been players transferring out or leaving early when they have no realistic chance of being drafted into the NBA. I fervently wish for that to change.

His coaching vs A@M was really bad and gave A&M a life line, especially at the end of regulation.

I didn’t watch the game to which you are referring, but his teams are consistent statistical outliers in key statistics year after year after year. He is undoubtedly one of the top 5 coaches in the game. I do not admire the man’s ethics or integrity but he can coach basketball. If the Hoyas could hire only his right arm, then we should seriously consider it.

Up by 10 with 1:26 left. He let the lead evaporate. Up by 3 with 2 seconds left. Just bad coaching decisions all around. Two starters fouled out by 1st OT Had four starters foul out by the 2nd OT. They are so lucky they were able to escape this game. Watch the last 5 minutes.

Might be off topic but if we are picking out strategic/lineup flaws in games where the Coach is advancing to the second weekend of the tournament, wouldn’t every Hoya fan give their left nut for that kind of problem?

And frankly, even if your criticism of those 5 minutes was valid (I saw the game and don't think it is), you cannot judge a coach on 5 minutes. If you are going to say a coach is bad who in the last several years has made a Sweet 16, an Elite 8, a Final Four, another Elite 8, and Second Round of the Tournament, then your criteria for judging good coaching are odd. On KenPom, his teams have been ranked 2, 2, 2, 5, 14, 12, and 18 since 2018. I think I, and many of your fellow Hoyas fans, would do much to have a record approximating that. Sampson has easily been a top 5, and certainly top 10 coach over the last several years.

We should just be thankful that he shares his deep wisdom with us.

They won despite all the fouls and adversity. I think that shows just the opposite.
