Pr, guru, boya and traversb should start a thread that only the 4 of you can access. Just be miserable in their together. Save the rest of us from looking up to see continuous jabs and unhelpful pot shots so that you can get your frustration out without making the board a cesspool. Just look up at this page in the thread. Boya from the top rope. Guru elbow drop. PR - Finish him. It's like a tag team of guys who seem to get joy out the pain that is Gtown basketball currently. None of us enjoy the losing or accept the status quo as OK in any form. But you 4 continue on a daily basis to make this forum less enjoyable for me and I'm sure many other diehards agree. If that's the goal - mission accomplished. Why put yourself through the pain? Go ahead and use the “block” feature. I will not mind. LOL

The measure of a coach is that the team is better at the end of the season than at the beginning. Is there anyone who believes this team is better? Can you name three players who are better today than they were in December? Maybe Rowan, perhaps Cook at time and possibly Fiedler if he had been given floor time. The way I see it, you have a core of three players, 4 with Styles and maybe, maybe 5 with Epps to build on. That is it! I will give the four recruits, that is 9, you still need 2 quality additions who bring experience, brawn and leadership. You answered your own question. Cook showed the most improvement with Rowan right behind him and very good grown by freshman Fillder. I would add the Bristol found a good role as top defender and a threat when given an open look from 3. His two attempts last night looked good all the way but both rattled out. Styles was a non entity at NC and grew steadily over the year in scoring, rebounding, and defense. That is five players clearly better then they were at the start of the year. Heats and Massoud regressed from what the did last year and that really hurt us, especially with only 8 players seeing court time. Epps was a frustration with games where he was unstoppable and games where he disappeared on offense and defense. Lots of talent offensively but not who we want as our #1 option. That is a core of six players, assuming no one leaves, compared with a core of Heath as a starter and Bristol as a sub when Cooley came on board. 4 solid prospects coming in, with Sorber addressing our biggest issue on defense. Add a BE level starter at PF and a grad transfer point guard to give us depth there and it is reasonable to expect Cooley to field a much more competitive team next year.

I'm as frustrated as everyone. What really bothers me is how Cooley failed to develop Brumbaugh and Fielder. From the get go those two should have been playing 25+ minutes a game. It is so clear to me that the more they have played the better they have gotten. Like I've said before, if Massoud and Heath were legit starters AND WEREN'T SENIORS then okay you work Fielder and Brumbaugh in slowly. But right now Fielder is a better player than Massoud and Brumbaugh is clearly our pg starter next year and probably the team leader for the next 3 years. To be honest, Cooley's failure to see this really scares me. Is he really the guy who will turn this program around? Okay fellow Board members please tell me I'm being too critical. Please walk me back from the ledge. Honestly, it's a pretty standard development path. Ups and downs of young guys. A need to catch up to game speed. Physicality. Positioning. Seeing their biggest minutes and most positive development at the end of the season is what you're looking for. Can you nitpick on playing them more earlier? Sure. Heath and Massoud being awful magnifies that even more. But if they get smacked around by more physical guys and the team gets blown out of the gym anyway, I'm not sure that helps their confidence or growth in those minutes. Fielder held his own with Oduro for the majority of the 2nd half on both ends of the court. And now he has an offseason to make a leap. As for Rowan, if you think he's our starting PG next year, then we're going to be in this same position W-L wise. I hope you're wrong. I totally disagree about Rowan. Ithink he showed significant improvement this year, his first playing at the D1 level. And I expect similar growth next year. If we can bring in a strong grad transfer PG to split time with him and help him develop his game further, I think he is a solid piece of a good team the two years after that.

We're saying the same thing. I want him to be a backup 15 minute a guy night next year. Then be ready to take reigns as upperclassmen. My point is simply that if he's our starting PG getting 30 minutes a night next season I think that will be an issue

SS, did you go? Given that you go to most games, which would you say is the best travel opposing fan base? Worst? Yes, in my usual Section 101 seats. Best travel fans from opposition is UConn IMHO. Creighton and even SJU (relative to the storied history between the teams) the worst. Went to every home game last year as well as this year. Total Cap One conference victories: 4 in two years. Ugh. Will Coach Cooley send me another autographed basketball?? I didn't get a ball and I was there. I got 5 people to fill our 9 seats. The guy holding the Friars license plate in my section (VA plates) was insufferable. His wife kept grabbing him. Who brings a license plate to a game? We had Provy fans behind us too who were frankly pretty knowledgeable about their program & players. Not overly angry individges but there are a lot of them in that fan base. They are the scorned lovers. The ex spouses who were cheated on. They are taking this to the grave and won't change their stripes anytime soon. It is going to make it really fun when we are consistently beating them again and they are an afterthought.

How did the Friar fan get a license plate thru security? The autographed basketball was mailed to me prior to this season for my attendance last season. I was actually impressed that someone from the AD emailed me to verify a good address for delivery, merely indicating that I was receiving a gift for my loyal attendance during Ewing's last year. I was expecting a t-shirt but was pleasantly surprised by the basketball. That being said, I am disappointed in this season but look forward to the next.

An area of noticeable improvement for our guys is turnovers. Hopefully this will pay of dividends in the tournament.

As I watch the season evolve, I have to remind myself how thin we are in depth as so often I wonder why Massoud ever sees the court. He shows no defense and scored 2 points last night. Where is the value. Heath is not far behind. So what I conclude is they see the floor as we have no depth and players must garner some rest. Hopefully next season will be better. On these two players though, both stats and visuals are not pretty. Have you watched, mostly on replays, what Massoud is doing on rebounds. We all relish the occasional distant three he throws up but the points added are more than made up by those given up by poor defense.
On a positive note, Brumbaugh and Fielder are going through a pretty typical freshman year in the BE....They both were quite overwhelmed to start but are contributing more and more as the season progresses. I could never have agree with a comment above that Fielder gives us more than #24 earlier in the season, but right now he does.
Finally, my Cal Bears grew rapidly through the portal with Tyson, Aimaq and Cone to a lesser extent, but they will lose those three pieces and be in more trouble after going 9-10 in the Pac12 after three total wins in 2022-23 season. The reason for same is the Cooley is worse off now but has done it the better way and the Hoyas look better with Brumbaugh, Fielder, Epps, the four new recruits, and whatever we add in the portal. Building better for the long haul. Keep the faith.

If we draw Providence in the BET, I think we knock them off. And that would provide a bit of sweetness at the end of a bitter season. Let’s hope!
