I am amazed as I watch the forthcoming Senate Race in Virginia for Tim Kaine's seat how Kaine is consistently listed as totally safe and unchallengeable. The Republicans behind a candidate like Barabara Comstock or even Liz Cheney(who I am sure could claim and probably already has residence) could easily attack Kaine for carrying out the Biden-Harris war against suburban women based on 1) Support for Transgender sports which undermines the opportunities for their daughters to obtain college scholarships 2) Support for the revisions in the State department's au pair program which will double the cost of childcare for suburban woman www.wsj.com/politics/policy/cost-of-hiring-au-pairs-could-double-under-biden-administration-proposal-23afe8b7?mod=hp_lead_pos113) inflation which has taken the cost of the basic weekly order of groceries from January 2021 up 33% now, with spikes in staples like eggs having moved even higher in certain months 4) Support for the environmental regulations that will imperil the gas furnaces, hot water heaters and stoves of the largest single investment of the suburban woman family which is their primary home. 5) Attacking life saving drugs that benefit women through overworught and shotgun based antitrust enforcement. The attack on the recent Amgen acqusition of Horizon when the latter wanted to scale up its production of a new lupus therapy (lupus primarily victimizes women) illustrates this. All the Republicans need is a candidate (if Comstock or Cheney moderated their past views) with a moderated or, better yet, a pro-choice position on abortion and they should be able to sweep the suburbs of Northern Virginia and with the rural and military vote win the state. Or better yet, why not cross the aisle and give the nomination to James Webb (who cannot possibly support the current leftist Democrat party). He impressed me durng his single term in the Senate and who is an incredible and rare warrior-scholar-writer. Instead it looks like the Republicans are going to simply cede a totally winnable seat. I think it is apparent political incompetence.

1) Support for Transgender sports which undermines the opportunities for their daughters to obtain college scholarships Imagine thinking this is a real issue let alone one that would have any impact whatsoever on a rational election.

1) Support for Transgender sports which undermines the opportunities for their daughters to obtain college scholarships Imagine thinking this is a real issue let alone one that would have any impact whatsoever on a rational election. Gee, I would have thought that Virginia suburban moms would be more concerned about reproductive health care and their daughter's right to an abortion rather than an obscure issue created by the radical nihilist MAGA GOP cultural warriors. According to the Wason Center poll, 49% of likely voters want to keep the abortion law on the books and 23% want fewer restrictions on the procedure. Twenty-four percent of those surveyed said they want Virginia to impose more restrictions. www.wric.com/news/politics/local-election-hq/poll-majority-of-virginia-voters-back-current-abortion-law-but-are-split-on-2023-elections/Va. voters focused on education, but less on trans students, poll finds A 70 percent majority of registered voters say that education is a “very important” factor in their vote for the Virginia legislature this year, whereas about half as many (34 percent) say transgender issues are very important to their vote. “I’m not seeing in the data that the trans issue and how that is playing in public schools is a big driver right now in the electorate,” said Mark J. Rozell, dean of the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University. www.washingtonpost.com/education/2023/10/22/virginia-education-poll-results/And the 2023 Virginia legislature election results: RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia Democrats who campaigned on protecting abortion rights swept Tuesday’s legislative elections, retaking full control of the General Assembly after two years of divided power. The outcome is a sharp loss for Gov. Glenn Youngkin and his fellow Republicans, who exerted a great deal of energy, money and political capital on their effort to secure a GOP trifecta. apnews.com/article/virginia-legislature-election-2023-79f9337731c25decc83b83eeb4d3e00eYup, transgender athletes "stealing" scholarships is going to make the difference!

Actually learned today that Ben Carson is living in Virginia since he left the Trump admin. He's another potential candidate the Virginia GOP should try and recruit. Come on guys, I don't want to watch a boring race this Fall for such an important state. Competition does everyone good and moves people to the center where we need them to go.

Nikki Haley would say it's a real issue, but take that for what it's worth.

I have another political incompetence bone to pick with the Republicans and that has to do with the month over month changes in the consumer and producer price indexes which are in fact and have been moderating. However. the cumulative changes in both since January 2021 have been spectacular. Let's focus on under 35 young people who need to buy cars and houses and whose month to month expenditure is probably about 40 to 45% for these two items-if they are lucky enough to get into a 7.5% mortgage and obtain an 8% car loan. Both of these rates have gone up from January 2021 from 2.67% with respect to mortgages (a 280 percent increase) and about 4.1% for car loans (or about a little less than a doubling in cost from the inflation of 195%).
But will a Republican Senator or Congressman be ready to go on CNBC and the other morning shows this week (when the cpi/ppi are released) arguing that the small diminutions in the rate of inflation for the month do not point to real achievement in the face of the interest rate tsunami that has already hit the beach and has been needed to slow inflation.
And while incomes have gone up they have not gone up 280 or 196 percent.
Maybe we will all be surprised this week.

But I think they, as always, will be too timid. This is certainly a problem that dwarfs the 30,000 plus adults and children dying each year from gun violence, the dismantling of American democracy, rampant anti-semitism, and a war in Europe by a crazed, unpredictable dictator. How can we let this go on! America get to the polls before Joe Biden forces you to buy a Tesla (manufactured by another right wing nutjob BTW).

But I think they, as always, will be too timid. I'm sure this is shocking to you but the first decades of the combustion engine automobile were not filled with stellar cars that consistently performed well. It's almost as though investing in a newer, cleaner technology might be a good idea to make the cars better, safer and more reliable. FWIW, did you happen to do any research on any issues in Chicago with traditional vehicles during the same period? Or, should we just assume that all of the traditional cars performed just great and started right up? I only ask because one of my Georgetown roommates lives in Chicago and, ironically, works with the Transportation Department of the city. Let's just say there were A LOT of issues and they weren't just with electric vehicles. Here's a photo he texted me this weekend: Attachments:

Ironically HH79 started this thread "Political Incompetence of Republicans" which nominating Carson would be in Virginia. That and worrying about Biden/ Harris in Virginia - transgender sports threatening suburban womens' daughters ability to get college scholarships! How far removed from reality is that! Running Carson in VA would be like Oz's debacle of a campaign in PA. Moscow Mitch was right about 2022 - "Republicans" had a "candidate quality" problem in failing to win the Senate. See e.g., Kari Lake, Herschel Walker, and aforementioned Mehmet Oz. WASHINGTON — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday downplayed expectations of Republicans capturing control of the Senate in the fall elections, describing “candidate quality” as an important factor. “I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate. Senate races are just different — they're statewide, candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome,” he said in Florence, Kentucky, at a Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce luncheon when asked about his projection for the 2022 election. www.nbcnews.com/politics/2022-election/mcconnell-says-republicans-may-not-win-senate-control-citing-candidate-rcna43777Run, Ben, Run! www.salon.com/2015/09/30/the_7_most_impressively_stupid_things_ben_carson_has_said_partner/

I can't believe Marjorie Taylor Greene making a motion to vacate the Speakership. What a dumb thing to do. With the current Republican lead in all the swing states, which may even be understated, the Republican Party is almost at the point that they just need to show up six months and a few days from now. There is no way this turns out well, the show only diverts from needed campaign messaging and only helps the opposition. True political incompetence.

(Lauren Boebert is another story.) Greene knows that Johnson will survive a move to vacate the chair but this is a ploy to draw away donors from Republicans in Congress that do not support her. If it succeeds, it increases her ability to be a power broker for donors and given that Johnson is not a leader of the party in any way, shape, or form, it is an attempt for her to gain leverage if the Congress flips to a D-led House and a R-led Senate. If it fails, it is soon forgotten. On a wider tangent, it also is another step for her to position herself as a player in 2028 when neither current nominee is constitutionally eligible to run.

Everything has been smooth sailing for Congressional Republicans since… oh, wait. Calling an election six months out with the number of unprecedented variables currently in play is the height of hubris. No wonder Republicans believe all elections are stolen from them. They live in an alternate universe where their opinions become their facts.

Goober Comer has to be one of the dumbest in the MAGA GOP. Nothing more important to do you MAGA moron? Biden Crime Family "investigation" not working out for you? House Republicans look to intervene in D.C.’s response to GWU encampment “We have legislative jurisdiction over the city of D.C.,” said House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), who visited the tent encampment at GWU Wednesday afternoon with other committee members. “We want to ensure that the Washington police is working with campus police to ensure the safety of Jewish students.” www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/05/01/gw-protests-house-republicans-dc-response/
