Anyone have any bar recommendations near the arena that will be open Saturday morning before the game? I often pre-game here before noon games as it opens at 11 am. I believe Joe the Bartender told me that it would open earlier for the Syracuse game. I just checked and the Channel will be opening at 9 AM for the game. N.B. Class of '77 is meeting here for post-game drinks. It is located 2 blocks away from Cap One at 5th & H Street inside the Fairfield Inn. www.irishchanneldc.com/Thank you! Did you call and ask or that on their website somewhere?

While the money grab desertion by Suckacuse has diminished the importance and fever-pitch intensity of the rivalry, let us never forget. Manley Field House is officially closed. The 1981 BET held at Syracuse; Syracuse students stealing the banner of the DC radio station airing the Hoya games and parading it through the streets - only to have it rescued by BC fans(?!) "Ewing Can't Read" signs and a banana thrown against the back of the backboard while he was at the line. Michael Jackson dropping 31 as a freshman to win at the Dome. Pearl Washington hitting a go ahead jumper with 8 seconds left, only to have little Charles Smith dribble through all 5 Orangeboys to hit the buzzer teardrop over Rony Seikaly. The Michael Graham slap/punch after Andrew Hawkins barely missed Graham's face with a wild swinging elbow wrestling for a rebound in 1984 BET; Froggy Paparo initially ejects Graham, then reduces it to a technical, causing Boeheim to later throw a chair and storm out of post game presser. Ewing banging Pearl for rebound position in 1985 BET, Pearl then punches Patrick in the ribs and Patrick retaliation punch misses the mark. Pearl last second jumper beating Hoyas at the Dome in '85. Pops gets a technical from each of the 3 refs back-to-back- to-back during first half in 1990, waves arms to booing crowd as he leaves the court. Otto Porter drops 33 at the Dome in 2013 to spoil Derrick Coleman jersey raising celebration. Never Forget. Crush the Orange. I only remember the Porter game. I do remember’89 big east championship, ‘89 Charles smith coast to coast buzzer beater at the dome, clinching the big east regular season title in our last big east game against them, I’m off on the year forgive me ‘10 beating them in the big east tournament as they were huge favorites has to be my favorite

Not to quibble but Smith hit a scoop not teardrop after Sperman Douglas’ jumper… Right you are. The cobwebs get thicker with each passing year!

This almost seems fake as a former student who felt like my presence was just a pain in the a** to the program and administration

WaPo feature on Cooley today. Gene Wang covering the game tomorrow.
If Cooley can resurrect the program, would be nice to see some regular Post coverage

Is suspended Ben Williams playing tomorrow? Is a GU game curing that ill?

Syracuse a 1.5 pt. favorite. First SUcks vs Hoyas game as team’s head coach for BOTH coaches. Not sure if that ever was possible to say before…

This almost seems fake as a former student who felt like my presence was just a pain in the a** to the program and administration Can’t agree w this enough. I had two interactions with the program on campus - yelling “good luck this season, Coach” to Ewing as he entered HFSC and getting a smile and wave back and having a meal with Yurtseven who was eating alone at Leo’s one lunch. Pretty cool interactions so not a knock on either. But I feel if that had happened with Cooley I’d have walked away with a T shirt, a handshake, and a life lesson of some kind along with tickets to the next game. There’s a big difference between acknowledging fans and engaging fans and I’m glad to see the new engagement.

Why the 11:30 start as opposed to noon?
