Both squads off to very strong starts this year. The women won their first two tournaments at William and Mary and Princeton, winning back to back events for the first time ever, and the men finished second in the St. John's event. Not particularly strong fields at these events, but I was very interested to see that both teams are competing in a new event at St. Andrews, Scotland October 23-25 that will be televised on Golf/Peacock and also includes 2 pretty significant men's golf powerhouses in Vanderbilt (featuring the top amateur Gordon Sargent) and North Carolina (preseason number 1), as well as Notre Dame, which has had a few very strong players recently too. Honestly not really sure how Georgetown got invited, but would be great to see a few Hoyas competing in the big amateur events, as college golf seems to be gaining in popularity as a better established pipeline to the professional game.

It feels wrong to celebrate anything today, but kudos to the golf teams for a very respectable start against top competition in St. Andrews, with the men only 8 strokes back of UNC and Vandy, and women just 4 back of the leaders. I am particularly impressed at seeing both the Men's and Women's 2022 Massachusetts Amateur champions Connor Willett and Morgan Smith tied for second in the individual competition after Day 1.
