Georgetown to pay up to $550,000 to settle unpaid overtime allegations Georgetown University will pay up to $550,000 to resolve allegations from the D.C. government that certain hourly employees at the Jesuit institution worked unpaid overtime, according to a settlement announced Tuesday. The D.C. attorney general’s office said the deal was reached after it investigated Georgetown’s overtime practices in response to a tip last year from a whistleblower. The office alleged that some employees in the university’s medical center and graduate school of arts and sciences were required to work “off the clock,” without compensation, in violation of D.C. law from March 2020 until this year. www.washingtonpost.com/education/2023/06/20/georgetown-university-overtime-settlement-dc/

GU should feel fortunate they are not in California, where they'd have to deal with the joys of PAGA, meal/rest period violations, paystub violations, waiting time penalties, etc. No way they'd have been able to settle for 500k based on these facts and class size if the campus was located in Sacramento.

Washington Post: Georgetown University will pay up to $550,000 to resolve allegations from the D.C. government that certain hourly employees at the Jesuit institution worked unpaid overtime, according to a settlement announced Tuesday. Were there a Twitter feed called "Typos Of The Washington Post", this would be today's entry. Georgetown is not a "Jesuit institution" inasmuch as it hasn't been owned by said order since 1966.
