The last home game of the year.
The merciful end is near.

It is a big game for them. A loss to us would be devastating to their Net ranking and NCAA seeding. So expect them to go all out and it should be a good game.

Oooh, great, a Georgetown person on with Providence people, let's see what they say about Ed Cooley, that'll be fun, maybe they'll mix up a bit, "we're gonna steal your coach".... "Bobby, what coaching names are being talked about?" ... and Bobby takes a complete pass because even now he doesn't want to get blacklisted. Talks about Jay Williams and Stan Van Gundy and goes all professorhoya with "Rick Pitino has a relationship with Patrick Ewing".

I predict pain. They hustle, we don't. They generally play smart, we don't. They adjust, we don't. They'll adjust to Primo the way everyone else has and force Murray to beat them with fewer then 5 turnovers (he won't).

You do wonder if we’ll ever have a game when Heath, Murray and Primo are all on. Odds wise you figure that will happen in one game out of 30. If that happens we will blow the team out of the water.

You are still operating under the delusion that these players are any good. Double97 admits the players are no good. They are 7-22 following 6-25, of course the players are no good. But, their abilities are absolutely minimized by the historically no good coaching.

Double97 admits the players are no good. They are 7-22 following 6-25, of course the players are no good. But, their abilities are absolutely minimized by the historically no good coaching. It seems like they have raw basketball skills, but are not high basketball IQ players. It's hard to put a percentage on how much of that is the coaching's fault, but there's also a lot of plays where it wouldn't even matter who the coach is, they just make bad plays, they don't see the court. Q in the post is a prime example of this. He can't see a wide open kickout for a three. Heath, Murray and Primo will make a nice drive, draw a second or third defender to block their shot, and they'll still try that shot, when you can see the defense is helping and if we saw the court, we could kick it to the open guy. But we don't do these things, it's low IQ basketball. Other teams see it, they kick it out and get an open three, or at the very least, put our defense in scramble mode until an open shot does present itself. I don't even know what to say anymore, it's just awful basketball. Even the 2 games we won over Butler and DePaul, the basketball was terrible and we only won because DePaul and Butler were abysmal on those days. I'd love to give the team credit for those 2 wins --- to say the played really well and deserved to win, but they really didn't. There isn't one game all season where I would say things were clicking and we played impressive basketball. You would think in 30 games, you're bound to have one game where everything comes together, but for G'Town, it doesn't happen --- not even once. With all that being said, I do think it's mostly on the coaching staff at this point. There never seems like there's any game plan, offensively and defensively. I can count on one hand the amount of times our offensive set plays actually result in an open shot in a game. For other teams, I would need like 5 hands to count the amount of times their offense results in an open look, or a layup. It's coaching, but I wouldn't fully absolve the players either. Poor roster construction though is also on the coaching staff.

IF the staff is telling the team to kick it out to the three point shooters, which any decent coach would preach, and the players consistently fail to do it, you bench the serial offenders. We have seen no evidence of that occurring.

Poor roster construction though is also on the coaching staff. In my opinion the number one on court reason what this team has lost ma ny of its games is turnovers. It is not only having more turnovers than our oponant, it is that so many of those turnovers were in the open court leading to uncontested layups. You are not going to win games taking long 2’s and hitting a low percentage of 3pt shots while your opponent is shooting uncontested layups. That energizes their team and makes their defense look for more open court turnovers. It makes our team trying to play cautious and offensive movement stops. Statistically their points per possession, points in the paint, and shooting average go way up. Many on this board pick defense as the number one failing but I think it is turnovers. I am being specific about on court reasons since every failure can be blamed on the coaching staff. I will fault the coaching staff for putting players on the court who are responsible for multiple open floor turnovers, especially the inability to inbound the ball after the opponent scores.

I will fault the coaching staff for putting players on the court who are responsible for multiple open floor turnovers, especially the inability to inbound the ball after the opponent scores. I see your point, but the stats don't back this up. In fact, in conference games only this year, our turnover rate (which accounts for tempo/pace differences) is ranked 7th of 11. So, yes, we turn it over a lot, which is very bad (and as you say, many of those turnovers are very bad turnovers). But, St. John's, Creighton, Connecticut, and Seton Hall actually have turned it over more than us in total. In contrast, we are 11th in defensive efficiency. DePaul has gotten worse as the Big East season goes on, but especially given that we are likely to get trounced in the next two games, we are very likely to finish last. And the gap between the top teams and our defense is enormous. Not so with turnovers. Put another way: you can turn it over on offense a lot and still be a really good team by doing lots of other things well, like Connecticut. You cannot be a good team with defense like ours.

Bottom line... The players are playing scared and the coach is coaching scared... The coach’s problem is not that he’s scared. It’s more fundamental than that.

I think we're well past anyone being "scared". Everyone knows what's going to happen.

Bottom line... The players are playing scared and the coach is coaching scared... I don’t see players playing scared. I see players playing like there’s no consequence to their actions (i.e., poor shot selection, poor defense, no passing, no movement, careless turnovers). As for the coach, he doesn’t look scared. He’s delusional in that he thinks he is a great, NBA-caliber coach.

Bottom line... The players are playing scared and the coach is coaching scared... Scared of what? At this point Ewing's fate is sealed. Either he will leave/get dismissed after we lose in the BET, or DeGioia will make one of the worst decisions in sports history by keeping him employed despite his abysmal record. When I look at Ewing coaching on the sidelines, I see somebody who lacks enthusiasm and who doesn't seem to get any enjoyment out of his job. He hasn't been reported to be recruiting and traveling for that purpose for months. As for the players, I think some players are still giving it there all, others less so. Keep in mind these players have been in a hopeless situation for months - and for the players who were here last year, they have basically had 2 years of abysmal, basement level basketball. I do not blame any of them at all if playing for our program is depressing, because it has to be. Maybe the uncertainty scares them at times, but the one good thing they should all look forward to is that next year will almost certainly look better for them than this year, whether at Georgetown or somewhere else.
