Via reddit (totally secondhand -- I did not witness this, but seeing this story made me smile...) We may not be having success on the court, but good to see someone representing the university well.

Thanks for sharing that. Must have been a great sight!
No surprise to hear that. He is as good a person off the court as he is a hard worker on it. That's why we love him and are lucky to have him.

My favorite player on this year’s team and it’s not close. Seems like a tremendous young man, thank you for sharing.

Great story, thanks for sharing. I really hope he plays for us next year. Does Akok have another year of eligibility? I love his game and think he is exactly the type of player that will help a new coach transition. I would be thrilled to get another year with him.

Yes, but only because of the extra COVID year provided to athletes competing during the 2019-2020 season. So he has one year left if he wants to use it. Because of COVID he doesn't need to seek a medical waiver, but he barely played in 2021-2022 because of injury too. My guess is he could get the extra year that way too, but he doesn't need it.

I admit that at first this seems like a great story, but the numbers tell a slightly different tale.
According to Kenpom, Akok is now averaging 0.7 acts of kindness (AOK) per day. It's true that this month he has been producing well (Kenpom has his February AOK rating at 1.89, which is fantastic) but overall he's still not all that much above average.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team is doing even worse. A few of the players have the dreaded 0.0 AOK rating, but that can mostly be attributed to lack of opportunities. Which, of course, gets back to how they're being coached. Under JT3, the team was always in the top 100 in acts of kindness. Now I'm not saying we never should have fired JT3, but I'm also not not saying that. If you follow me.
To sum up, Akok should be applauded for this selfless act. But let's not get carried away.

Absolute gold. You win POTY in Feb.
