As someone who graduated from Georgetown College, I would have probably preferred to keep the name the same. Ultimately, I don't think it matters either way, but I find it silly that one of the listed reasons is: "Alumni pointed to inscriptions on their class rings." I mean, really? I mean, what about people who got class rings in the last 25 years? Again, it's not a big deal, I just find the way institutions justify things to be amusing.

I always thought it was the College of Arts & Sciences and people just shortened it to the College.
And do people even get class rings anymore? They seem like a relic from the past.

I always thought it was the College of Arts & Sciences and people just shortened it to the College. And do people even get class rings anymore? They seem like a relic from the past. That's what I thought when we were in school, but I've since seen references to graduation years as "CAS 'xx" for some people and "COL 'xx" for others, so I suspected there might have been a name change. I also remember the college's website being very much branded as "Georgetown College" and not "the College of Arts and Sciences." The real question I have is whether the motivation for this is in part to distinguish us from the Georgetown College in Kentucky, but nobody wanting to say that aloud.
