Very happy for Roy. Worked his tail off to become the player he became (gangly, doughy kid/14 year old sat near me at a bunch of Hoya games. Looked not AT ALL like a player — and we all remember didn’t really at Prep or as a frosh on the Hilltop). Lost his game in the pro’s (or game changed so quickly against his skill set) seemingly overnight, but kept at it. And in one of the classiest things I can recall JT3 went to a home game in Indy for a play off game to show his support/encourage when the floor was falling out from under Roy…

The three to beat UConn is forever burned into my memory. As is the dunk off the dish from Ashanti to beat ND his freshman year. EDIT: I just went back and rewatched those highlights. The smile quickly waned when I thought about it on the context of our current situation. In 15 years we went from a top 10 team hitting buzzer beaters on prime time national television to the flaming trash barge we are now. Edited

Courtesy of DFW and his Georgetown History Project, I can tell you the official attendance was a sell out at 20,035 and that ironically Pat Ewing (jr) had 14 on 4-5 shooting off the bench in 23 minutes, including 2-2 on his own 3s (Roy had 20 and of course that 3 made him 1-1 on them) Courtesy of my memory, can tell you the place WAS really rocking — official and actual attendance pretty close/few no shows — and of course the whole game generally and end specifically were spectacular.

One of my favorite Roy Hibbert games I attended was the "monster game" against 'Neers in 2008. "I'm a monster, I'm a monster. Be afraid," Hibbert said, cracking a grin while coach John Thompson III popped him upside the head. "It's just the way our team is working and making stops. I just said, 'You know what? Just keep cranking those buckets out." www.espn.co.uk/mens-college-basketball/recap?gameId=280740046

It’s just a shame that we ran into Steph Curry.

Yea I was in the house for that one also. Definitely very few empty seats. Place was absolutely electric. When Roy hit that shot I thought the building might collapse.

UCONN games always drew big crowds. Place went nuts. This game ranks fourth in my JTII era wins. Duke game is #1. UCONN game where Austin went for 28 in second half is #2. Win over Syracuse in their last BE game is #3 (the pre game scoreboard video of Hoya-Syracuse highlights was tremendous as was attendance by many ex Hoya stars).

Not a Hibbert game but one of my all time favorite games was the Snowmageddon game v Nova in Feb. 2010. I planned by booking a room at the Army Navy Club to ensure I could get to the Verizon Center as the blizzard was coming. The atmosphere was great even though it wasn't a full house. I ended up getting stuck in the ANC for an additional night because even the above ground portions of the Metro had shutdown. I ended up walking from the Ft. Totten station to Silver Spring where I was living at the time in the snow and not one car offered to give me a ride!! Now for the Georgetown fans and the Verizon Center. We came down pretty hard on the students on Wednesday for their lackluster showing against South Florida. Today was the exact opposite. Washington, DC had 20+ inches of snow, and if you've ever lived in the city, you know it's like a third world country when it snows. For the entire student section to be filled makes me so proud to be a Georgetown alum. There have been tales of kids walking 3 miles from campus to the Verizon center, others of people braving the unplowed roads and driving. Whatever the case, all of you that made the insane trip down to the game today, awesome job. The stadium was so loud, and the players fed off it. You could see how appreciative the team was of the students showing up, with Henry Sims and Jason Clark jumping in the crowd before the game. www.casualhoya.com/2010/2/6/1298569/blizzard-game-georgetown-bombards

The full video of the Hibbert three point buzzer shot can be found here:
The atmosphere is just so crazy compared to anything we have recently seen.

Bad example. So that atmosphere had nothing to do with the fact that we were #8 at the time vs. being a perennial losing team under Patrick Ewing?

Bad example. I was actually referring to the atmosphere during the entire game, not just that moment (though it was a great moment). And, dare I say, if we had a buzzer beater next month against a Big East team, the "pandemonium" would be nothing like that video because hardly anybody would be at the game. Great atmospheres like that are created when two good teams play against one another in meaningful games. That year, Georgetown would go on to be a 2 seed in the NCAA tournament, and Connecticut a 4 seed. I miss those types of high level matchups badly.

I was at that game and it was like a heavyweight fight, intense back and forth for 40 minutes of solid play. Great game, great atmosphere, great student attendance. And Roy was so cool after he hit that three like it was an everyday occurence! The contrast with the current atmosphere in Cap One is stark and depressing.

As a recent student I feel qualified to say No the administration does not care anymore about basketball or the students, it is very apparent when on campus day to day that undergrads are just a nuisance never mind doing anything that might be fun for us
