Nice comeback for the Hoyas. I only say most of the second half, but Georgetown was pretty dominant throughout the half and overtimes. Two well-deserved goals, nice job ladies!

Great composure from this team. They basically controlled the last 40 minutes of play.

Some great halftime adjustments as well - they looked like a totally different team between the end of the first and the start of the second.
Frankly, those of you let down by the ESPN+ feed didn't miss a whole heck of a lot. After the 20' or so of the first half, the game settled down from the initial ODU surge and was largely played between the boxes. Finally Georgetown swung the run of play in their direction with the first corners of the game - 3 in rapid succession - with around 11 minutes left in the half. The first two were very nearly goals. At that point, it certainly didn't feel like ODU would get on the board before halftime, but Brianne Riley had an uncharacteristic giveaway trying to clear and followed it up with a foul in a dangerous spot, leading to the goal. I am very, very happy she got the tying goal to exact a measure of personal redemption.
After the goal, Hoyas looked a bit shellshocked and definitely needed the half to regroup.
I'll add one more thing that became a topic of conversation during the game: the consequences of the NCAA doing regionalized pairings in the first round to minimize how much they have to pay the schools for travel. This leads to some real disparities in level of difficulty:
#3-seeded Georgetown had to face RPI #35 Old Dominion (which is higher than any Big East team not named Georgetown or Xavier, including at-large tournament selection Providence) #7-seeded Providence got to host RPI #50 Michigan #4-seeded Harvard hosted RPI #85 Maine #3-seeded Brown got RPI #90 Quinnipiac
This kind of nonsense needs to change.

Xavier had 41 shots, 7 of them on goal, but could not convert any of them and lost to Tennessee in OT in a rematch of a first-round matchup last year, where Tennessee was the seeded team but Xavier exploded in OT to win going away 4-1.
Providence took the Cowbellions to OT in Starkville before falling 1-0. That's it for the Big East, aside from Georgetown. Not ideal.

Expected goals of 2.47 for Georgetown compared to 0.63 for ODU. Keep that in mind for when I update this post with the official ODU writeup on the game...

Great facility. Grass field will be nice. Four excellent teams to compete. Both games look close to toss ups. Should be an interesting weekend. Go Hoyas
