McNEESE STATE (Southland)-- John Aiken (2 years; 11-23 this season; 22-45 at McNeese and overall) was fired March 8, 2023, and was replaced as head coach March 12, 2023 by Will Wade (former head coach at Tennessee Chattanooga, Virginia Commonwealth and Louisiana State); the five-year contract has a base compensation in the total amount of $1.175 million, along with various performance bonus incentives, and further provides that Wade will serve a five-game suspension at the start of the 2023-2024 season and will be under self-imposed recruiting restrictions throughout the term of the contract, in an apparent attempt to pre-impose sanctions that are expected to be imposed by the NCAA relating to Wade's coaching tenure at Louisiana State.
MISSISSIPPI (Southeastern)— Kermit Davis (5 years; 10-18 this season; 74-79 at Ole Miss; 477-317 overall) was fired February 24, 2023, and was replaced as head coach on an interim basis for the balance of the 2022-2023 season February 24, 2023 by Win Case (assistant coach at Ole Miss), and was replaced as head coach March 13, 2023 by Chris Beard (former head coach at Texas, Texas Tech and Arkansas Little Rock); no terms of compensation nor duration of the contract were released by Ole Miss.

RADFORD (Big South)-- Darris Nichols (2 years; 18-13 this season; 29-31 at Radford and overall) was suspended on February 19, 2023 after being arrested on charges of driving under the influence and subsequently pleading guilty to these charges on February 23, 2023, was replaced as head coach on an interim basis February 19, 2023 by Shane Nichols (assistant coach at Radford), and was reinstated as head coach on March 6, 2023, at the conclusion of the Big South Conference championship tournament. Nichols (2 years; 21-15 this season; 31-33 at Radford and overall) was sentenced on February 23, 2023 to a license suspension of twelve months, $2500 fine, a 180 day jail sentence with all but two days suspended, and installation of an ignition interlock device on his vehicle; on May 15, 2023, Nichols received notice of an Order to Show Cause hearing on June 14, 2023, as to why the suspended 180 day jail sentence should not be imposed after a violation notice was issued regarding a positive reading on the ignition interlock device.
RICHMOND (Atlantic 10)— Chris Mooney (18 years; 13-14 this season; 325-258 at UR; 367-297 overall) underwent heart surgery to remove an aneurysm in his ascending aorta, and was replaced as head coach on an interim basis for the balance of the 2022-2023 season February 17, 2023 by Peter Thomas (assistant coach at UR).

The amended contract now provides for a year-by-year agreement beginning May 10, 2023 and expiring April 30, 2024, and reportedly WVU's administration made it explicitly clear to Huggins that any incidents of "similar offensive and derogatory language will result in immediate termination."  Huggins was thereafter arrested in Pittsburgh PA on charges of driving under the influence on June 16, 2023, and was released on his own recognizance pending further appearance at a preliminary hearing on a date to be determined.  Huggins resigned as head coach June 17, 2023 after meeting with members of the WVU basketball team, and announced his intention to retire.

McNEESE STATE (Southland)-- John Aiken (2 years; 11-23 this season; 22-45 at McNeese and overall) was fired March 8, 2023, and was replaced as head coach March 12, 2023 by Will Wade (former head coach at Tennessee Chattanooga, Virginia Commonwealth and Louisiana State); the five-year contract has a base compensation in the total amount of $1.175 million, along with various performance bonus incentives, and further provides that Wade will serve a five-game suspension at the start of the 2023-2024 season and will be under self-imposed recruiting restrictions throughout the term of the contract, in an apparent attempt to pre-impose sanctions that are expected to be imposed by the NCAA relating to Wade's coaching tenure at Louisiana State.
MEMPHIS (American)-- Penny Hardaway (5 years; 26-9 this season; 111-52 at Memphis and overall) was suspended June 21, 2023 for the first three games of the 2023-2024 season by the NCAA for two impermissible in-home visits with a recruit during his junior year of high school in the 2021-2022 academic year, prior to the appropriate recruiting period based on that recruit's year in high school, and will miss the November 6 Jackson State game, the November 10 Missouri game, and the November 17 Alabama State game.

RADFORD (Big South)-- Darris Nichols (2 years; 18-13 this season; 29-31 at Radford and overall) was suspended on February 19, 2023 after being arrested on charges of driving under the influence and subsequently pleading guilty to these charges on February 23, 2023, was replaced as head coach on an interim basis February 19, 2023 by Shane Nichols (assistant coach at Radford), and was reinstated as head coach on March 6, 2023, at the conclusion of the Big South Conference championship tournament. Nichols (2 years; 21-15 this season; 31-33 at Radford and overall) was sentenced on February 23, 2023 to a license suspension of twelve months, $2500 fine, a 180 day jail sentence with all but two days suspended, and installation of an ignition interlock device on his vehicle; on May 15, 2023, Nichols received notice of an Order to Show Cause hearing on June 14, 2023, as to why the suspended 180 day jail sentence should not be imposed after a violation notice was issued regarding a positive reading on the ignition interlock device.

WEST VIRGINIA (Big 12)-- Bob Huggins (16 years; 19-15 this season; 343-203 at WVU; 934-415 overall) signed an amended contract May 10, 2023, which reduced his annual compensation from $4.2 million to $3.2 million, and further imposed a three-game suspension and sensitivity training after Huggins was interviewed on Cincinnati radio station WLW on May 8, 2023 and discussed an incident when he recalled "rubber Editedes" being thrown onto the court during a Crosstown Shootout game between Cincinnati and Xavier, further saying "[w]hat it was, was all those f*gs, those Catholic f*gs, I think." The amended contract now provides for a year-by-year agreement beginning May 10, 2023 and expiring April 30, 2024, and reportedly WVU's administration made it explicitly clear to Huggins that any incidents of "similar offensive and derogatory language will result in immediate termination." Huggins was thereafter arrested in Pittsburgh PA on charges of driving under the influence on June 16, 2023, and was released on his own recognizance pending further appearance at a preliminary hearing on a date to be determined. Huggins resigned as head coach June 17, 2023 after meeting with members of the WVU basketball team, and announced his intention to retire.

MEMPHIS (American)-- Penny Hardaway (5 years; 26-9 this season; 111-52 at Memphis and overall) was suspended June 21, 2023 for the first three games of the 2023-2024 season by the NCAA for two impermissible in-home visits with a recruit during his junior year of high school in the 2021-2022 academic year, prior to the appropriate recruiting period based on that recruit's year in high school, and will miss the November 6 Jackson State game, the November 10 Missouri game, and the November 17 Alabama State game.

WEST VIRGINIA (Big 12)-- Bob Huggins (16 years; 19-15 this season; 343-203 at WVU; 934-415 overall) signed an amended contract May 10, 2023, which reduced his annual compensation from $4.2 million to $3.2 million, and further imposed a three-game suspension and sensitivity training after Huggins was interviewed on Cincinnati radio station WLW on May 8, 2023 and discussed an incident when he recalled "rubber Editedes" being thrown onto the court during a Crosstown Shootout game between Cincinnati and Xavier, further saying "[w]hat it was, was all those f*gs, those Catholic f*gs, I think." The amended contract provided for a year-by-year agreement beginning May 10, 2023 and expiring April 30, 2024, and reportedly WVU's administration made it explicitly clear to Huggins that any incidents of "similar offensive and derogatory language will result in immediate termination." Huggins was thereafter arrested in Pittsburgh PA on charges of driving under the influence on June 16, 2023, and was released on his own recognizance pending further appearance at a preliminary hearing on a date to be determined. Huggins resigned as head coach June 17, 2023 after meeting with members of the WVU basketball team, and announced his intention to retire.

MEMPHIS (American)-- Penny Hardaway (5 years; 26-9 this season; 111-52 at Memphis and overall) was suspended June 21, 2023 for the first three games of the 2023-2024 season by the NCAA for two impermissible in-home visits with a recruit during his junior year of high school in the 2021-2022 academic year, prior to the appropriate recruiting period based on that recruit's year in high school, and will miss the November 6 Jackson State game, the November 10 Missouri game, and the November 17 Alabama State game.

TEMPLE (American)-- Aaron McKie (4 years; 16-16 this season; 52-56 at Temple and overall) was "relieved of his duties" as head coach and reassigned as a special advisor to the athletic department March 13, 2023, and was replaced as head coach March 29, 2023 by Adam Fisher (associate head coach at Pennsylvania State); no terms of compensation nor duration of contract were announced by Temple.
TEXAS (Big 12)-- Chris Beard (2 years; 7-1 this season; 29-13 at UT; 237-98 overall) was suspended without pay "until further notice" December 12, 2022 after being arrested earlier that morning by Austin TX police on felony domestic violence charges, was replaced as acting head coach December 12, 2022 by Rodney Terry (associate head coach at UT). Beard was fired January 5, 2023 "for cause" after declining UT's offer to resign as head coach, was replaced as head coach on an interim basis for the balance of the season January 5, 2023 by Terry (5-1 as acting head coach this season), and was replaced as head coach March 27, 2023 by Terry (22-7 as acting and interim head coach this season); Terry reportedly agreed to a five-year contract through the 2027-2028 season at an annual compensation of $3 million per year.
TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI (Southland)-- Steve Lutz (2 years; 24-11 this season; 47-23 at TAMUCC and overall) resigned March 18, 2023 to accept the position as head coach at Western Kentucky, was replaced as head coach on an interim basis March 18, 2023 by Jim Shaw (assistant coach at TAMUCC), and was replaced as head coach March 29, 2023 by Shaw; no terms of compensation nor duration of contract were announced by TAMUCC.

TEXAS TECH (Big 12)— Mark Adams (2 years; 16-15 this season; 43-25 at TTU; 87-115 overall) was suspended March 5, 2023 for the use of “an inappropriate, unacceptable, and racially insensitive comment” when he allegedly encouraged a student-athlete “to be more receptive to coaching and referenced Bible verses about workers, teachers, parents, and slaves serving their masters,” and was replaced as head coach on an interim basis March 5, 2023 by Corey Williams (assistant coach at TTU and former head coach at Stetson).). Adams resigned as head coach March 9, 2023, and was replaced as head coach March 31, 2023 by Grant McCasland (head coach at North Texas and former head coach at Arkansas State); the contract is reportedly for a term of six years at a total compensation of $18 million.
UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY (Patriot)-- Jimmy Allen (7 years; 17-16 this season; 98-112 at Army West Point and overall) was fired March 8, 2023, and was replaced as head coach March 29, 2023 by Kevin Kuwik (assistant coach at Butler); no terms of compensation nor duration of contract were announced by Army West Point.
UTAH STATE (Mountain West)-- Ryan Odom (2 years; 26-9 this season; 44-25 at USU; 149-96 overall) resigned March 29, 2023 to accept the position as head coach at Virginia Commonwealth, and was replaced as head coach April 7, 2023 by Danny Sprinkle (head coach at Montana State; no terms of terms of compensation nor duration of contract were announced by USU.
UTAH VALLEY (Western)-- Mark Madsen (4 years; 28-9 this season; 70-51 at UVU and overall) resigned March 29, 2023 to accept the position as head coach at California, and was replaced as head coach April 6, 2023 by Todd Phillips (associate head coach at UVU); no terms of compensation nor duration of contract were announced by UVU.

WEST VIRGINIA (Big 12)-- Bob Huggins (16 years; 19-15 this season; 343-203 at WVU; 934-415 overall) signed an amended contract May 10, 2023, which reduced his annual compensation from $4.2 million to $3.2 million, and further imposed a three-game suspension and sensitivity training after Huggins was interviewed on Cincinnati radio station WLW on May 8, 2023 and discussed an incident when he recalled "rubber Editedes" being thrown onto the court during a Crosstown Shootout game between Cincinnati and Xavier, further saying "[w]hat it was, was all those f*gs, those Catholic f*gs, I think." The amended contract provided for a year-by-year agreement beginning May 10, 2023 and expiring April 30, 2024, and reportedly WVU's administration made it explicitly clear to Huggins that any incidents of "similar offensive and derogatory language will result in immediate termination." Huggins was thereafter arrested in Pittsburgh PA on charges of driving under the influence on June 16, 2023, and was released on his own recognizance pending further appearance at a preliminary hearing on a date to be determined. Huggins resigned as head coach June 17, 2023 after meeting with members of the WVU basketball team, announcing his intention to retire, and was replaced as head coach on an interim basis for the 2023-2024 season on June 24, 2023 by Josh Eilert (assistant coach at WVU); no terms of compensation were announced by WVU.
WESTERN ILLINOIS (Summit)-- Rob Jeter (3 years; 16-14 this season; 39-45 at WIU; 223-215 overall) resigned April 7, 2023 to accept the position as head coach at Southern Utah,was replaced as head coach on an interim basis April 8, 2023 by Chad Bouchard (associate head coach at WIU), and was replaced as head coach April 13, 2023 by Bouchard; no terms of compensation nor duration of contract were announced by WIU.
