I wouldn't mind being 1-25 as long as we beat PUKE
Well actually I lied, 17-9 hopefully taking down a top 10 Duke team in a sold out MCI

The Hoyas will grab at least 18 wins this year and we're all going to the NCAA's! Make the plans ready, I just wish that it wasn't illegal to get that home court advantage at MCI

Nice reality check Ed, but I don't see that happening this year. I also think estimates saying, All the way to the NCAA are in insult. All the way to the sweet 16 I will accept.

I would be disappointed with anything less than 6-2 at home.
Look at this:
Cincy: Imploding Pitt: Beat them on the road last year. Lost their entire front line. 'Cuse: Lost by a big toe on the road last year. Lost their entire front line. St. Johns: Beat them at home last year. (lost on the road) Rutgers: Beat them at home last year. (won on the road) WVU: Beat them at home last year. South Florida: You have to be kidding Providence: Lost at home by three. Loses First-team All-Big East Ryan Gomes.
So 3-1 at home versus the teams we played last year (and the one loss by 3), 1-1 versus the teams we only played once on the road (close games and both lose major starters), a weakening Cincy, and the dreadful USF. Early line has the Hoyas favored in all those games, seriously.
The road schedule is tough but who cares? We should be able to at least split Marquette, DePaul, ND, St. Johns, USF, and WVU. We likely won't see a repeat performance of our 'Nova win or of UConn. So let's go 3-5 on the road.
So that adds up to 9-7. I'll say we get another for 10-6.
As for OOC, we'll win the Sun Bowl, beat JMU, Navy, Fairfield, and "cupcake to be named later." We'll also beat Vandy at home because Vandy is possibly the worst road team ever (for all you stat hounds, Vandy's road/neutral record over the last five years has been 16-48 for a robust .250 win percentage).
We're up to 7 wins and now the fun begins: @michigan, Illinois, and Oregon and Duke at home.
1-3 folks, 2-2 the hope. It will hinge on Oregon, the ultimate clash of styles. I will like to see the rematch of Maarty "I already bought a vowel" Leunen and big Roy. They met in the 2003 Les Schwab Invitational with the big guy just dismantling the pride of Redmond, OR for 18pts 13rebs and three blocks. Leunen went 5-16 in the game.
So we're up to 8-3 OOC. That puts us at 18-9, 10-6 and tied for fourth in the Big East (just a guess). Our RPI will be strong and a second-round BET win gives us a nice seed.
I think a prediction of 17-20 wins is reasonable.
And here's the other tidbit: We can beat Duke, and not just on a fluke. They will miss Ewing more than they can even imagine. Reddick will shoot them in and out of games again. Melchionni is fine, but he's a hustle player and not a superstar. Dockery is a poor-man's Duhon. And I've seen McRoberts play and he's good, but how good? I don't know yet. He's nice and especially a good passer for a big man but how long can he run as a frosh and who's backing him up?
Short on size and really short on depth yet again, Duke can lose on the road. The key is to frustrate Williams on O with Roy and then bait him into fouls on D against Jeff. Once he's gone, it becomes a high stakes game of HORSE for Coach "Leader".

It's cliche to say, but I think the Duke game will hinge on the refs. We had them three years ago until they fouled out Mike because we were winning.
IF Jeff and Roy can stay in the game and give Shelden a bit of his own foul trouble, we can throw DJ or Tyler on Redick. Run out a series of 2 guards on him and bully him. I'm not afraid of anyone else on that team.
The issue, of course, is containing Williams and not getting into foul trouble. Even if the refs were not leaning Duke's way (and they will be), that's a tall order.
The rest of your prediction rings true. I could see us going 5-3 or 8-0 at home in the Big East this year. We'll see how far the team has come in those four tough home games and the five winnable but not easy away games. Otherwise we should be 5-2.

My predictions, probably very similar to Giga's
Cupcakes -- (4-0) @navy @jmu Colgate Designated Home Cupcake
Likely Wins -- (6-1)
Rutgers @south Florida South Florida Vanderbilt Fairfield St. John's Providence
Toss Ups -- (6-5) UTEP @michigan Cincinnati @depaul @marquette @nd @sju Pitt Syracuse West Virginia @west Virginia
Dogs -- (1-4) Duke @oregon @illinois @connecticut @villanova
------
My total is 17-10 and likely a BE record of 9-7. I think I'm being pretty even in assigning the W-L within the category, but you could argue some of my "toss-ups" like Marquette should be likely wins. There's a lot of potential for a fantastic year, though.

still think eighteen and nine is mighty fine... but go with many more ooc losses with all those tough away games ..and much better in the big east like twelve and four .. yup thats it.. worse in the ooc ...and better in the big east when the babies contribute more.. especially eggerson and thorton gohoyas ..go babies .. learn alot in those faraway places uconn maybe priceless ..a.nd without williams.. if they do appropriate things with their computers... go hoyas

I am going to assume that the missing game is Howard and that we are trying to work out a way to fit it in over the holidays while school is out and have it in MCI so we can get a good draw.
11/18: at Navy - Win 11/21: at J. Madison - Win 11/26: VANDERBILT - Win (although this will be close - although, its Vandy that has to travel over Thanksgiving - so I give us the edge there) 12/03: at Oregon - Loss (its our first road test and I think we'll fall just short) 12/11: FAIRFIELD - Win Howard - Win 12/27: vs. Colgate [1] - Win 12/28: vs. UTEP/MVSU [1] - Win 01/21: DUKE - Win (close, but I think we can do it) at Illinois - Loss at Michigan - Win CINCINNATI - Win at Connecticut - Loss at DePaul - Win at Marquette - Win at Notre Dame - Loss PITTSBURGH - Win PROVIDENCE - Win RUTGERS - Win ST. JOHN'S - Win at St. John's - Win S. FLORIDA - Win at S. Florida - Win SYRACUSE - Win (I have seen 3 of these end at the buzzer the wrong way - GU basketball owes this to me for my senior year) at Villanova - Loss W. VIRGINIA - Win at W. Virginia - Loss
Final Record: 21 - 6 However - this can be 17 - 10 just as easily. I think that 17 or 18 wins will be our magic number for the tournament. It will be interesting to see how we do in comparison to Louisville, Syracuse, and UCONN who all get the pleasure of beating up on each other all season.
