I was going through the basketball history section today and reflected on the fact that in the last 33 years of Georgetown basketball, only three players (Derrick Jackson, John Duren, and Eric Floyd) are in the Georgetown Athletic Hall of Fame.
Three more are a given at some point: John Thompson, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning.
Taking these three out of the equation for now, if you could nominate three more from any era, who would they be? (Note: for the Hall of Fame, the player must be a graduate of Georgetown.)

PE is slated for induction and was scheduled to be inducted last year, but he was unable to attend the ceremony.
If I had to pick one, it would have to be Deke. He brings a record of distinction on and off the court that is worthy of special commendation.
ON EDIT: Wouldn't it be great to have an induction during the 2006-2007 season as part of larger commemoration ceremonies for our centennial season? There is probably a long list of deserving hoops alumni.

Thank goodness! When I read the title I thought I was going to have to move some clutter about Wade Boggs bawling to the Pro Sports board!! Bill Martin '85 Dikembe Mutumbo '91 Reggie Williams '87 ...I was going to add Bill Bolger '53 but he's already in the HOF...

Reggie would have to be #1 if Mike Laughna is not in, he should be. -- Wait, I just checked. He's already in. If Sweetney ever graduates, put him in. What about Michael Jackson and Charles Smith? Did Craig Shelton graduate? if so, why Duren and not Big Sky? You can't have pat and zo without having Dikembe, though his years at GU were not at the same level of production as Pat and Zo.
I would also suggest consideration of Othella, Bill Martin, David Wingate and Perry McDonald. I guess that's more than three... OK Reggie Shelton Charles Smith

What about Gene Smith? The guy may not have the stats, but his defensive prowess, leadership, and tenacity was the best I've seen out of most Hoyas.

Definitely Reggie. From Georgetown Basketball History Project: "Notable: Consensus All-America, 1987. Top ranked HS senior, 1983. Big East All-Rookie Team, 1983-84. Leading scorer in 1984 NCAA title game. First Team All-Big East, 1985-86, 1986-87. Consensus All-America and Big East Player of the Year, 1986-87."

While an interesting thread, the point that sticks out for me is why aren't some of these guys already in the Hall of Fame. I mean, Ewing graduated 20 YEARS AGO. He's retired from the NBA. From a player's standpoint, he IS Georgetown basketball. Before last year's announcement, it was conceivable that he could get into the NBA Hall of Fame before he gets into his own college's hall of fame! Anybody have any idea why this takes so long? It's not like he's getting canonized. Also, once he finally does get inducted, if there isn't some big halftime ceremony during a home game at MCI Center I will boycott our athletic department. Having Ewing, and probably his son there too, would make the crowd roar like back in 84. Hey that rhymes. And while I'm in a ranting mood, can we please move our physical athletic hall of fame to some place bigger, where we could have like sports memorabilia like old jerseys and pictures and whatnot? Georgetown athletics deserves better than for its hall of fame to be in the back corner of Leavey. Most people don't even know that it's there. It's nice, but very weak. It should be bigger and have more to it.

Is there room in McD for the hall of fame? I guess the foyer is pretty full, but maybe they can find a little space in there for a plaque of the HOF names or something.

Correction, WAS full. They took down all the old pictures, no idea why. They should go back up there immediately.

Does somebody know where I could read the selection criteria? I think you could even make a case for Hyde and Tagliabue, based on their contributions to the country and the world of sports, not necessarily their performance on the Hilltop. I'm not sure if that is how the HOF is designed or whatever, but an interesting thought nonetheless...

...Before last year's announcement, it was conceivable that [Ewing] could get into the NBA Hall of Fame before he gets into his own college's hall of fame! Anybody have any idea why this takes so long? It's not like he's getting canonized... The general rule of thumb is that nominees are selected 20 or so years from graduation, so the Ewing era is next on the list. ... The Leavey site is a great location gievn that most visitors to Georgetown would never see a room in McD if it was there. (Before the Leavey area, the hall of fame was a plaque in the McD lobby.) One of the other issues about the Hall is its selectivity. With only five alumni awarded every two years, and the need to recognize alumni across men's and women's sports, you could easily see a situation where only 3-4 men's basketball alumni might get in each decade. If so, a Ewing, Williams, Mutombo, and Mourning could be arriving soon, but a Bill Martin, Michael Jackson, David Wingate, or Charles Smith may be more than a few years off. Of course, you're already seeing names from the 1970s fall behind the curve (Jon Smith, Steve Martin, Al Dutch), while there are probably a few from the 1960's whose stats are solid but that aren't in consideration anymore (Steve Sullivan, Paul Tagliabue). Maybe there needs to be a "veteran's commitee" of sorts to remember the pre-1980 Hoyas that were otherwise not included earlier. (Maybe Lic can chair this one.)

Shelton did not graduate, therefore he's not eligible (he'd be a lock if he had graduated). Jim Barry is already in: www.hoyabasketball.com/rosters/alltime-b.htm#jimbarry
